I decided to take another look over my notes from the Mizuno Showcase because it was a big weekend with a LOT of great teams under one roof. Let’s take a look at some new names that made their way onto our radar by standing out at the Showcase.
Acker previously attended our Prep Dig Showcase but it was good to see her in the tournament setting. She routinely took an aggressive approach to the ball and had a very high motor in the middle. Acker is quick lateraly and aggressive at the net no matter the opponent on the other side.
Lilliana Ramirez
Lilliana Ramirez
Ramirez was fun to watch because you could see her confidence grow more and more with each swing she took. She is the type of player that will keep getting better every time she steps on the court. Experience will be a game changer for Ramirez!
Abby Bennis
Abby Bennis
Bennis has a really long reach that comes in really useful as a middle blocker. She sets up to attack and takes an aggressive swing around the opposing blocker. Bennis can also take a strong slide approach. She is raw but there is a decently high ceiling.
Kylie Gustafson
Kylie Gustafson
Gustafson can hang until the ball is just right to take a wicked fast lefty swing down the line. She sees the split in the block and takes a heavy swing to expose it. Gustafson does a nice job crashing inside to block a fast inside set.
Ernster does a great job getting her hitting arm up and ready early so as soon as the ball is in her airspace she is taking a fast swing. She is strategic with her tips and can attack from either pin. On defense Ernster does a great job of taking up the split in the block and getting her hips below the ball.
Gabby Schuldt
Gabby Schuldt
Schuldt has a high motor at the net and does a great job tracking the play on the other side of the net. She transitions quickly off the net and makes herself available to attack on every play. Schuldt is also a scrappy off-blocker defender.
Augedahl puts up a big block across the net and doesn’t have trouble closing the block. You also don’t want to try serving short near here because she passes the ball with ease and then is fast in transition to terminate. Augedahl can run a slide approach behind the setter and has a really high contact point.
