Tons of talent gathered together in Dallas over the weekend for the Lone Star Classic National Qualifier. This is widely regarded as one of the toughest qualifiers of the year in the nation due to the strength of the teams in the lone star state and also because of the teams who travel from all over the country to play in it. We were lucky enough to be able to watch the elite competition over all three days and are starting this series of articles on players that stood out to us for various reasons. Here are a few of them:

[player_tooltip player_id='206885' first='Roisin' last='Owen'] [2025] 5-9 Setter (HS: Weatherford/Club: Club Texas/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Roisin is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Weatherford High School and also for the Club Texas Volleyball program. We have been watching this young lady for a while now and are very impressed with what we have seen in Orlando at the Sunshine National Qualifier and also during this Lone Star Classic National Qualifier. Both tourneys had some great competition playing and Miss Owen has been able to be ultra competitive. As a setter she has a very strong upper body that can deliver the ball to the pins from any location on the court. I was impressed with her ability to zone serve with extreme accuracy. She is a natural leader on the court and communicates to her hitters very well during dead ball situations. When you watch her play, she makes decisions that show a high volleyball IQ and a natural competitive spirit to do whatever it takes to get the ball to the other side of the net. I love how she is able to deliver the quick tempo sets to her middles with supreme accuracy. In my opinion that is her bread and butter which makes her team a threat.

[player_tooltip player_id='212419' first='Georgia' last='Byers'] [2025] 5-11 Middle (HS: Deer Creek/Club: Oklahoma Peak Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Georgia is currently an unranked 16th best overall prospect according to our Prep Dig Oklahoma State Rankings in the 2025 class. She plays at Deer Creek High School and also for the Oklahoma Peak Performance club program. We have written about Miss Byers a few times last season and were thoroughly impressed with what she has done this season also. She helped lead her team to a third place finish at the toughest qualifier in the nation with great play at the net. Georgia is a solid contributor on both the offensive and defensive end. She has a very high motor and is always ready to battle at the net. During the semifinal match, she was pivotal in slowing down the opposition during the three-set thriller. There were quite a few balls in which she was able to slow down by getting a solid touch from the block. She reads the court very well and can see the holes in the defense while in the air and uses off-speed shots/tips to score. She is able to run multiple routes with pace and understands timing principles for each so that she can attack aggressively.

Gabriella Torres [2024] 5-6 Setter (HS: McAllen Memorial/Club: Texas Fierce Elite/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Gabby is currently an unranked prospect according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings in the 2024 class, but has impressed us with how she has performed over the last few tournaments. She plays at McAllen Memorial High School and also plays club for the Texas Fierce Elite volleyball program. Miss Torres showed some amazing leadership while I watched this past weekend at the Lonestar Classic. She helped lead her team to a fifth place finish in the American Division. I loved watching her quick footwork as she tracked down passes and digs. She was able to have great posture while setting because of that tracking and it led to her delivering beautiful sets to her attackers. There is not a set that she cannot replicate with accuracy along the net. Gabs is a master at spreading the ball around to all of her hitters so that it keeps the defense off-balance. She did this well this past weekend and it led to some amazing rallies by her talented squad. Another aspect that stood out to me while watching her play is how low to the net and accurate her serves were. She routinely had her opposition stifled due to her float serve.

As always stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes. If you have anyone you think we should watch out for, please shoot me an email with some info at Michael@prepdig.com. Also don't forget to help these kids get more exposure by sharing our stories with your friends. Help us help them by simply retweeting on Twitter or sharing on Facebook. Thanks for following us, Prep Dig Family! Don't be afraid to interact with us. We love the likes, shares, and quotes/comments.
