Eight Southeast Michigan Prospects To Watch In 2023

You can use promo code “EllisDig2023” for $10 off your registration.</em></p>   <p>Southeast Michigan features some of the top volleyball teams in each division of the MHSAA.</p>   <p>The upcoming season should be a big one for SE Michigan and has a lot of Player of the Year candidates.</p>   <p>Here's eight to look out for in the upcoming season.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='473915' first='Hannah' last='Baker'], MH Lenawee Christian (2024)</strong></h2>   <p>Baker is one of the top returning players in Division 4. The 6-foot middle moves very smoothly across the net and is able to consistently high point the ball to overpower her opposing blockers. She's got a great feel for how the play is developing and where to attack the defense. Baker is very light on her feet as well, making her a relentless blocker.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='110282' first='Mallory' last='Bohl'], MH Saline (2024)</strong></h2>   <p>The state has been robbed of watching Bohl for nearly a year now. The 6'3” Notre Dame commit has been recovering from a knee injury, but that will just make her hungry to help push Saline to the top in 2023. One of the best blockers in the state, and maybe the country, Bohl is a dominant presence at the net that can change the game with her size and athleticism.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='156292' first='Jessica' last='Costlow'], OH SMCC (2025)</strong></h2>   <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2021/11/DSC_0491.jpg?w=712" alt="" class="wp-image-166316" width="144" height="207" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">[player_tooltip player_id='156292' first='Jessica' last='Costlow']</figcaption></figure>   <p>Costlow started as a middle early in her prep career, but has evolved into a six-rotation outside hitter that can help her team in any phase of the game. Costlow has the lift and arm speed to be a power arm, the intelligence to finish with offspeed attacks, the quickness to be a defensive asset, and the competitiveness to be one of the all-time greats at a loaded SMCC program.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='226889' first='Madeline' last='Dettling'], OH SMCC (2026)</strong></h2>   <p>One of the few All-State freshmen Michigan produced last season, Dettling was just another talent SMCC added to its already impressive roster. Dettling gave the Kestrels some size at the net at 6'0”. She's a power in Division 3, as she can play well above the net and provides power to compliment the technical outside ability that Costlow has.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='288956' first='Sophia' last='Kellogg'], OH Plymouth Christian (2025)</strong></h2>   <p>Kellogg has the coach's intelligence and instincts on the floor. She's not shied away from the spotlight and been willing to step into a lead role for PCA since Day 1. Kellogg can make all the plays and finish from the front or back row. She is a hustle player that gets to a lot of balls defensively, and also brings an impactful serve to the floor.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='156313' first='Marie' last='Laurio'], OH Saline (2025)</strong></h2>   <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2023/01/8-Marie-Laurio-3.jpg?w=742" alt="" class="wp-image-291030" width="161" height="221" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">[player_tooltip player_id='156313' first='Marie' last='Laurio']</figcaption></figure>   <p>Laurio was a huge breakout piece to Saline making a run to the D1 semifinals last fall. The team needed someone to step up with Bohl injured, and the then-sophomore answered the call. Laurio was a powerful finisher that had a great defensive foundation as well. She's got a lot of explosiveness off the floor, but makes the decision of an upperclassman.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='176600' first='Kate' last='Maley'], OH Skyline (2024)</strong></h2>   <p>It's certainly not going to be easy to try and step up in place of the graduating Harper Murray, but Maley is someone that Skyline can turn to to be a leader on the court. Maley was the compliment to Murray on the outside last fall and was a consistent finisher with a steady defensive game. Now, her experience will push her into a leadership role where we can really see her overall game.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='156321' first='McKenna' last='Payne'], L/DS SMCC (2025)</strong></h2>   <p>One of the top defensive players in the state, Payne has been holding steady in the back row for the Kestrels. She's got a lot of leadership skills to accent her defensive ability. Payne is quick, concise and technically sound in her play. She also brings a strong serve to the court.</p>
