We were super excited to run our first session of the USA GJNC Pre Tourney Showcase in conjunction with the USA Junior Nationals Tournament on Tuesday June 27th. We had some of the best players from all over the country attend from the 13’s through 15’s age groups. Many players stood out to our court coaches and scouts throughout the entire showcase for a variety of reasons. Some players stood out for their dynamic physical skills and some stood out for intangibles like leadership, effort and attitude. Let’s meet a few of the players who earned the honor of Top Performer at the showcase.
Jenna Tello [2028] 5-3 Libero (Club: Austin Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jenna is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them. She plays club for the Austin Performance program. Miss Tello is a lot younger than most of the players who were committed to the showcase on Tuesday. I decided to admit her after evaluating her play and also after talking with her club directors. It was a sound decision because she more than held her own against much older competition. Jenna is a fearless defender who has immense control over her body, which allows her to control the ball so well under any circumstance. She is not afraid to pursue the ball with tenacious speed. She can use her hands to dig and also extend her range by lunging and pushing off of her outside foot. In my professional opinion, in a few years, she will be a top five libero in her age group in the state of Texas. Stay tuned to see more from Miss Tello. I know I will keep my eyes on her and you should too.
Betsy Wolkind Betsy Wolkind 5'9" | S Vandegrift | 2027 TX [2027] 5-8 Setter (HS: Vandergrift/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Betsy is an unranked prospect in the 2027 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She will play at Vandergrift High School and she currently plays for the nationally recognized Austin Juniors club program. Miss Wolkind wowd a few of our scouts and court coaches with her wonderful hands and solid footwork. During the individual positional drills, we were amazed at how fast she was able to move around the court so effortlessly. One of our scouts remarked at her ability to push the ball to both pins with ease and I saw it also. The ball comes out of her hands pretty clean and fast, which will help her run a fast offense in a few years. What helps her around the indoor court is her ability to also play beach volleyball. This has gotten her to be very efficient with her footwork and also a lot stronger than most players her age. I think she has a very high ceiling to keep improving and we will be watching her grow very closely. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award from our showcase.
Giselle Norris [2026] 5-5 Libero (HS: Millbrook/Club: Metro/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Giselle is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays at Millbrook High School and also for the Metro club program. Miss Norris played her heart out during the GJNC Showcase and many coaches were amazed at what they saw from her in the back row. I love how she keeps her eyes on the ball and never takes them off of it. This helps her to always stay on her toes and ready for anything to come her way. Her fast-twitch muscles are on full display when the hitter contacts the ball and she always anticipates a deflection off of the block. She also has a very solid and stifling serve that crosses the net just above the tape and is very hard to pass as a receiver. One very great aspect about her play in the back row is that she is capable of playing all three spots and truly understands the differences between them. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award from our showcase.
There are many more amazing players that will be written about. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.
