The Class of 2022 has some impressive young middle hitters that may not have their future remain in that position, but they have been able to make an impact early in their high-school careers at the spot. Many in this top-10 list are players capable of playing a variety of positions on the court and are likely leaders of their eventual programs as they are given more time to develop.

RELATED: 2022’s Top Outside Hitters

RELATED: 2022’s Top Setters

Aly Borellis, Notre Dame Prep/Legacy: Borellis is listed as a primary middle, but she can play almost anywhere. She played setter and Right Side for Notre Dame Prep this fall as well. She is another in a line of great freshmen to play for the Irish. She racked up 725 assists, 328 kills, 371 digs, 54 blocks and 76 aces for ND, which finished runner-up in Division 2. Borellis earned Third Team All-State in Division 2 this season. She is now playing for Legacy 15-Elite and is sure to be an impactful player for years to come.

Serena Nyambio, Detroit Country Day/Michigan Elite: Country Day has a lot of young talent to work with right now and Nyambio is a big part of that. The young middle, standing 6-1, had over 200 kills and 115 blocks in her first year, but also showed an ability to serve by putting up close to 40 aces. Nyambio is a great defensive presence at the net. She is really noticeable on the court for Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno, as she plays well above the net.

Evelyn Doezema, Grand Rapids Christian/MVA: A 6-4 standout that can play in the middle or outside, Doezema will have plenty of opportunities to shine for GR Christian in years to come. The team had plenty of hitters in 2018 and she was part of that core with 152 kills and 49 blocks. The D2 state champs will turn to her more in 2019 and her size should prove to be a big asset. Plays for 15 National Black.

Bianca Giglio, Notre Dame Prep/Legacy: Giglio got the chance to play alongside two of the state’s top hitters this past fall and proved to be a rising star in her own right. The freshman helped the Irish get to the D2 state final by putting up 181 kills, 159 digs, 84 blocks and 34 aces. Giglio showed an ability to play in the back row as well as the front, making her an intriguing player to keep an eye on. She is continuing to improve as part of Legacy 15-Elite

Sarah Sylvester, Marian/Michigan Elite: Sylvester stands 6-2 and that makes her a handful at the net as is. She showed a lot of development throughout the fall season and should only get better for the Mustangs in years to come. This fall, she had 99 kills and 72 blocks. Expect those numbers to take a big jump in 2019. Sylvester is a big part of Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno right now and getting more confident on the court.

Cari Bohm, Ann Arbor Huron/Legacy: Bohm is 6-4 and part of a young Huron team that could make some noise in the years to come. She was part of the mix of hitters the River Rats went to this year and is only going to get better. Her size is hard to find and she’s putting up together this club season while playing for Legacy 15-Elite.

Brooklyn Conner, Forest Hills Central/MVA: The 6-1 middle got some good varsity experience this fall, playing a lot of top teams in the Grand Rapids area. She is has been a big asset for MVA 15 National Black this club year and should be helping FHC turn the corner next fall.

Emily Struckmeyer, Lowell/FaR Out: Struckmeyer didn’t see a ton of varsity time this fall for Lowell, but it is clear she is in their long-term plans. The Red Arrows were right near the edge of being a top team in the state this fall and they should be competing once again in 2019 and Struckmeyer could see a big role in that. She’s sharpening her game with FaR Out 15 Black in club play and could be ready to breakout next prep season.

Megan Gross, Unionville-Sebewaing: Gross was a big part of USA’s rotation on their way to the Division 3 state finals match. She ended up with over 250 kills while also showing the ability to serve and play in the back row.

Ella Cofield, Ypsilanti Lincoln: Cofield had a nice impact for Ypsilanti Lincoln as a freshman, finishing third on the team in kills and second in blocks. She also has shown an improving serve that gives her a pretty strong foundation to work with.

Others to note: Rayne Thompson, Piper Talaga, Emmalee Murphy, Ava Young, Olivia Howlett, Emma Mirabelli
