2020 Recruiting Report: What Iowa Athletes Are Staying In-State?

The state of Iowa is definitely a battleground when it comes to recruiting. With collegiate programs in all three NCAA divisions, NAIA, and NJCAA there is a Division for all athletes to stay in-state. However, with the talent and hard working ability of the “Iowa Girl” they are a desirable recruit for plenty of out of state programs as well. The past couple months have been a whirlwind of recruits committing to some of the top programs across the board. We will be taking a look at some of these athletes and where they will be taking their game when they are done with their prep career. Here are some of the athletes who will be staying in-state.

Kara Peter - IPVA - Carroll Kuemper - Middle Blocker

Committed to Drake

Peter was an integral part of Kuempers state championship run in 2018 and will be looking to defend the title this coming fall. A physical blocker at the net and attacker who can really get on top of the ball and put it straight down, Peter has given her verbal to play for Drake which is building a roster of plenty of in-state athletes, especially out of Central Iowa. Her size and overall athleticism will transition well to the Missouri Valley where she could even play on the right side as well.

Super excited to announce that I will be continuing my education and volleyball career at Drake University! Go Bulldogs💙🏐 pic.x.com/sa0FXncrP4
— kara peter (@kpeter20) April 25, 2019

Jada Wills - Six Pack - Dubuque Hempstead - Outside Hitter

Committed To Drake

Wills is a 5’9 thunderous outside hitter. Athletic, heavy arm, and solid in all six rotations, she will be part of a solid recruiting class with Peter coming into Drake. Wills was a Class 5A 2nd Team All State outside for Hempstead with nearly 500 kills. This upcoming season, Wills be leading a Hempstead squad who is returning all of their key attackers and will have some unfinished business before she becomes a Bulldog.

Huge shoutout to our most recent commit! Congratulations Jada on continuing your education and volleyball career at @DrakeVolleyball They are lucky to have you! #sixpackvbc @willsjada02 pic.x.com/Vwc3CO6RwO
— 6 Pack Volleyball (@6packvbc) April 18, 2019

Bailey Ortega - Eastern Iowa Xtreme 17 Teal - Davenport North - Setter

Committed To Iowa

This commit is fresh off the press, the setter from Davenport North High School will be wearing the black and gold and becoming a Hawkeye, a dream for so many Iowans. Ortega is an athletic and physical setter who can really compete among the best. Iowa has picked up some really solid commits from Eastern Iowa that includes Grace Tubbs (Clinton), Jaedynn Evans (Iowa City Regina), Lauren Schrock (2021-Mount Vernon), and Syndey Dennis (2021-North Cedar).

Committed🏐💛 pic.x.com/8iERRbFv6a
— bailey (@bailey_ortega) May 5, 2019

Coming up this week: Who is going D2? 2020 is off to a great start with some high powered D2 programs!
