It's shaping up to be another exciting fall around the state.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In getting ready for a new season, it's good to look back. While we're sure to witness breakout performances from individuals and teams within our borders, plenty of familiar faces return.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I considered different ways to go about this process, landing on organization of evaluations by conference. Beating programs within close proximity of you has never gone out of style.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Tri-Rivers Conference features programs with rich histories. The group is led by Springville, which earned its fourth trip in a row to the state tournament last year. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Awesome Orioles</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Springville has made it to state eight times since 2013. It racked up a 38-4 record last season, including an unbeaten run through conference play. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Orioles will see if they can reload again after graduating a lot of talented players off of the '22 squad. They'll build around senior Hannah March (148 kills, 176 digs, 30.0 blocks) and sophomore Rowan Jacobi (108 kills, 77.0 blocks).</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Lion Pride</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lisbon joined Springville in running the table in conference matches a year ago. It posted a 38-3 record, falling to Sumner-Fredricksburg in a 2A regional final. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Like Springville, the Lions lost a lot of good players to graduation. They'll rely heavily on seniors [player_tooltip player_id='206559' first='Ava' last='Czarnecki'] (352 kills, 238 digs) and Addy Happel (353 digs) in '23. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Knight Moves</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>North Cedar finished 6-1 in Tri-Rivers regular-season matches a year ago. It reached a 1A regional final, where it lost to Don Bosco. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Knights bring back a proven group from last season. Junior Presley Studt (515 assists 187 digs, 74 kills) along with seniors Valerie Pruess (87.0 blocks, 71 kills) and Claire Dennis (565 digs) form a solid foundation. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Wildcat Willpower </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Central City won 20 matches last season and finished near the top of the Tri-Rivers standings. Springville eliminated it during the regionals. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Wildcats return an exciting 1-2 punch in seniors Bailee Weber (299 kills, 248 digs) and Coletta Wade (247 kills). [player_tooltip player_id='329851' first='Macie' last='Lupkes'] is coming off of a freshman season that saw her produce 67 kills and 27.0 blocks. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Warrior Mentality</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Don Bosco ended Calamus-Wheatland's season in the regional semifinals last season. It won 20 matches before that, however. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Warriors return six players that started at least 37 matches in '22 and another one that started 17. Junior Brooklynn Biddle (238 kills, 306 digs) leads the way. Senior Courtney Knoche (404 assists) sets up teammates, while classmate Emily Boeckmann (215 kills, 295 digs) provides an all-around presence. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>...Juniors Emilee Beuter (86 kills, 56.0 blocks) and Teagan Liebe (160 kills, 108 digs, 21.0 blocks) return for North Linn...Edgewood-Colesburg will lean on seniors Audrie Helmrichs (331 kills, 265 digs, 56.0 blocks), Campbell Kirby (309 digs) and Marin Gaul (301 kills, 238 digs) along with sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='476860' first='Lilee' last='Boriskey'] (636 assists, 233 digs, 28.0 blocks)...Prince of Peace will build around super sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='231252' first='Kyla' last='Bellich'] (127 kills, 215 digs, 54.0 blocks)...Senior Haley Ronnebaum (165 kills, 46.0 blocks) and sophomore Lili Bauers (325 digs) stand out for Maquoketa Valley.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
