California High School Leaders – Scintillating Setters Vol 3

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Who is proving on the court that they are the best of the best in their position?&nbsp; Some say that numbers do not lie and we have the numbers that are being reported by coaches across the state.&nbsp; California is one of the best states in the nation when it comes to this wonderful sport and we are here to highlight all of our amazing players.&nbsp; Let's meet a few of the setters who are dishing dimes it on the court!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='475917' first='Payton' last='Rowell'] [2024] 5-6 Setter (HS: Pitman/Verbal: Uncommitted)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Payton is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings.&nbsp; She is the starting setter at Pitman High School.&nbsp; Miss Rowell is currently leading the entire state of California in assists during the young season that has just gotten underway.&nbsp; This young lady has been a three-year varsity member and really burst onto the scene last year as she had more of a starting role.&nbsp; Payton is controlling the ball and putting it anywhere she wants to this year.&nbsp; I love how she is creating great offense for her hitters off of any pass.&nbsp; The ball comes out of her hands so smoothly and fast during her back sets.&nbsp; This young lady is also a skilled server as her short zone serve is lethal and grazes the net to make it very difficult to pass.&nbsp; Despite her smaller height, Pitman still uses her as a setter when she gets to the front row and their offense does not skip a beat because of it.&nbsp; Miss Rowell deserves a lot of credit for how competitive this squad has been.&nbsp; Running a 5-1 is not easy, but she is making look like it is.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Marisa Bryson [2026] 5-7 Setter (HS: Pioneer/Club: Dynamix/Verbal: Uncommitted)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Marisa is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings.&nbsp; She plays at Pioneer High School and club for Dynamix. &nbsp;Miss Bryson is a dual sport stud who excels at softball also.&nbsp; She is ranked very high as a middle infielder by some publications.&nbsp; As a setter, she plays with a lot of fire and is a very good leader.&nbsp; In only her sophomore season on varsity she is one of the assist leaders in the entire state of California.&nbsp; This season is only half way done and she has already doubled her last season's total for assists.&nbsp; It is safe to say that this is her team to lead.&nbsp; The Patriots are 18-3 overall and undefeated in conference play so far.&nbsp; Miss Bryson is also showing up in the stat book on the defensive end.&nbsp; She routinely has double-digit digs in every match out of the right back zone.&nbsp; I would imagine her defensive tenacity and awesome footwork has a lot to do with her middle infield play on the softball diamond.&nbsp; We love what she is doing and will be watching her closely for the rest of the season and the next few years.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Bethany Millen [2024] 5-3 Setter (HS: Willows/Verbal: Uncommitted)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bethany is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings.&nbsp; She has been stellar dishing the rock for Willows High School this season.&nbsp; Although only 5'3”, Miss Millen plays very big on the court for her squad. &nbsp;She also stars on the softball diamond for Willows.&nbsp; Beth has been putting in work since her sophomore season on varsity.&nbsp; Although smaller than most in her position, she is very athletic and dynamic.&nbsp; She is not afraid to jump and block at the net if need be and still gets her hands above the net to battle.&nbsp; Although Willows lost in the Division IV finals last year, they are primed and ready to get back to a deep playoff run.&nbsp; If we know anything about Miss Millen, she is hungry to lead her team back to a chance at a title.&nbsp; Already tallying 537 assists this season, that is good enough for fifth most amongst all setters in the state of California.&nbsp; We are going to have some fun watching her ball with her teammates.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As always stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.&nbsp;
