To Rising 2020 Prospects Heading to Northwest Missouri State and Omaha

Committing season is here and two more top 2020 prospects from Iowa have given their verbal commitment to where they will be playing their college volleyball. The process for some of these athletes have been a lengthy one. From playing club, going to camps, national tournaments, high school ball, and still being a high school kid with friends and other activities to balance. Deciding on a college is a big deal no matter if its playing sports, going into music, or finding a specific trade. A time to celebrate and definitely give a sigh of relief. However, once the commitment is made, a whole new set of work begins.

Kyah Luhring - Grundy Center High School - CIA 17 Black - Libero

Committed to Northwest Missouri State

Luhring may be one of the best overall athletes in Class 1A/2A competing at state track this weekend as well as being one of the top liberos in her class as well. This past season for Grundy Center, Luhring racked up 370 digs for one of the top teams in Class 2A. Luhring will also be running track for the Bearcats. This weekend at the Class 1A state track meet she will be competing in four events in the 4x400, Sprint Medley, Distance Medley, and the long jump. Northwest Missouri State is in Maryville, Missouri and has a definite championship culture which they have won national titles for football and mens basketball. A volleyball program that is on the rise in MIAA, they compete against other teams in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahama. Their assistant coach, Alana Wittenburg is a Wapsie Valley alum and former Drake volleyball player.

Olivia Curry - West Des Moines Valley High School - CIS 17M - Setter

Committed to Omaha

Curry can do a little bit of everything and has had a huge club season drawing the attention to some of the top Division 2 and mid major Division 1 programs that will be competing for an NCAA Tournament berth. This past high school season she was on a state semifinal team at Valley where they tallied over 40 wins and a state semifinal finish. She will be looking to lead the Tigers back to Cedar Rapids. Curry’s style of play is just pure athleticism where she can get her hands on a ball most setters would bump set. She can close a block on the right side as good as any right side hitter. For CIS she can run the show setting, but she will also attack on the right side. In 2018 for Valley, she had 128 kills, 398 assists, and 112 digs. She is a triple double machine. Omaha is part of the Summit League which is under the direction of first year head coach, Matt Buttermore. Buttermore is picking up some top recruits in the volleyball hotbed of the greater Omaha area and will be able to recruit some top Midwest athletes as well. The Summit League has South Dakota which has deep connections to Iowa prep players and Denver where Ari Winters will be heading to in the Fall and Lauren Carter, a Class of 2022 setter from CIS.
