About Amelia

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm a quick-thinking player making smart moves. I'm undersized compared to most collegiate hitters, but I make tricky plays often reading the blockers and tooling the ball off of their hands for the kill. I'm also an excellent defender in the back row making me a trustworthy teammate on the court. My teammates know I'll find the ball and get it where it needs to be.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

At first impressions I can be shy, but my smile and laugh break through. I'm fairly carefree and bubbly when I'm off the court, but I am a fierce competitor at gametime. My parents raised me to "do the right thing" making me a considerate and caring person. I care about my teammates and the dynamic personalities can have on a team.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am an AAU Academic All-American and have earned the honor throughout my years of high school. I am also in a veterinary technician program at my high school and will be certified for that position when I graduate. I'm also super excited to officially be an assistant coach for my high school's boys volleyball program.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have been the captain of my teams at 2 different clubs over the last 3 years. I try to lead with encouragement and not let me frustration get the best of me when it gets tough on the court. I try to make teammates feel valued and my coach feel respected while firmly leading my team.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have switched clubs twice since middle school. Leaving behind teammates I had played with for years was very hard. I was very introverted as a child. Now I'm finding my voice and am leading a new team this year!

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college to give me a unique experience. I want an education, but I also want to play volleyball. I want to feel welcome and not like a random name on an attendance sheet.
