Here are seven players whose stock is up after consistently standing out among the state’s best at the regional event:
I watched Smith cranking out swings for Waterloo West when it played in Coralville during the fall. I was pretty surprised she was flying so far under the radar then. Seeing her perform again at regionals, that observation was confirmed. She’s one of the better hitters in the state’s ’25 class. She’s an explosive athlete with sharp volleyball skills. Smith is committed to being a strong, two-way player at the net. She can help a college program from either or both pins thanks to the aforementioned assets, excellent timing and an advanced feel for the game.

Donovan’s take-charge approach to setting impresses me every time I see her play. She’s in control of the action and keeps the team running smoothly. Donovan’s deliveries are consistently on target and where her teammates can maximize their swings. She’s accurate whether setting at the net or when placing the ball to the pin from distance. She’s tall with long arms and solid athleticism, which allows here to defend well at the net and swing with authority from the right side.

Another member of a CIA squad that includes Jada Smith Jada Smith OH Waterloo West | 2025 State IA and other intriguing prospects, Tschiggfrie is one of the most well-rounded volleyball players among the state’s juniors. Her versatility should attract college coaches as she can help them a multiple positions. Tschiggfrie could fit as an outside hitter in certain programs. She also stands out in the back row and even shows an aptitude for setting. College coaches might have to open their minds and be creative with how to use her, but Tschiggfrie is a next-level player.
McComas is similar to Tschiggfrie in that she’s a strong all-around volleyball player. I certainly could see her lining up on the outside in college, but she shows potential in the back row as well. As I’ve written before, I think she could work at setter in some systems with her feel for the game and her skill handling the ball. McComas is a solid athlete with explosion off the floor, a good vertical leap and a powerful swing.

Younge gets lost in the shuffle a bit playing on the state’s top 17U team. That’s a great opportunity for college coaches needing a well-rounded, front-row performer. Younge probably projects best in the middle, where her athleticism and timing help her succeed. She’s made strides with her swing since the fall, improving her setup and adding strength. I think Younge’s upside is significant and she has plenty of room before she reaches her ceiling.

I received my first in-person scouting opportunity of Glasgow in early January at the Six Pack tournament. She stood out with her performance then and did the same this past weekend. She fits as a right-side hitter on this Impact outfit, but she’s fully capable of delivering at the other pin. It feels like there’s a lot more in the tank here in terms of Glasgow’s ability to raise her game even higher. That should make her attractive for coaches at the next level.

Overton impressed me this weekend with her ability to play six rotations. I’m used to her being relegated to the right side or outside. And she stands out as a hitter with explosion and power. By expanding her game, it should open up more doors for her in recruiting. In other words, her stock is rising and scouts are hopefully taking notice of the improvements to her game overall.
