How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
My style during games is FOCUSED on my team’s objective (to win!), staying CALM under pressure (my best games have been when pressure is high), OBSERVANT of my opponent’s strengths (and weaknesses), UPLIFTING to my teammates who are struggling, and SMART in my ball placement and strategy.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I try to remain calm and focused on my team’s objective. It hasn’t always been easy for me. Early on in my volleyball career, I struggled a lot with moving past my mistakes and self-criticism. I was a shy, quiet, and anxious kid. But when I’m on the volleyball court, I am the opposite—CONFIDENT, LOUD, and RESILIENT.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I work as a camp counselor in my community over the summer and am part of several clubs—National Honors Society, Mental Health Awareness Club, Asian Pacific Islanders Club, Student Athlete Scholars.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
During the summers I work as a camp counselor for youth summer camps in my community. This has given me leadership skills and has taught me to be responsible. I also volunteer in my community as an opportunity to give back.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
My mom was only 18 years old when she got pregnant with me. My parents split up when I was just two years old and my mom and I had to grow up together. She took me to her college classes as a kid and it allowed me to learn how to work hard and not give up.
What type of college are you looking for?
I’m looking for a college that offers small to mid-size class sizes to give me the opportunity to build relationships with my professors and other students. I’m also looking for a college that is located somewhere warm.
