Continue ReadingJuly is an “Unofficial Kickoff” to the start of the high school volleyball season. Club is done, summer leagues and camps are rolling, and the anticipation for the high school season has started. Every program always has a few questions marks heading into the season. Even those who have plenty of returners still have their doubts. Potential lineups, combinations, goals, all of the above are fluttering through the minds of coaches in July and into August. This past weekend at the Wisconsin Team Camp, there were players that jumped on to the radar. There are always the high level players who jump out quickly, but who will be right along side them? The younger athletes who are ready to step into a bigger position. Here are a few who will be making a big impact in Wisconsin this fall.
Grace Holschuh – Luxemburg-Casco
Holchuh played for One Wisconsin at the Prep Dig Gauntlet as a middle and is now playing on the pin for LC. She will be entering her Sophomore year and jumps like a deer, flys to the ball, and has such a big upside to her game and a lot of potential to make a big impact for the Spartans this year.
Hannah Derenne – Luxemburg-Casco
Real smooth in all six rotations as a right side. Derenne will be a match up nightmare for opponents who can shut down an opposing outside with her block and is a smart and savvy shot maker. A lot of athleticism that will spread the front line of the defense out, Derenne will contribute in many ways, and will be looking to take her team back to the state tournament.
Madisen Miller – Appleton North
North is going to be loaded with backcourt talent in Megan Piton, Grace Demetrician, and now Madisen Miller. Miller was extremely solid for North this past weekend having a lot of positive touches, solid in serve receive, and reads extremely well while in coverage as well as the opposing attackers. If North can win the serve and serve receive game, they will be tough to beat when they can stay in system with two high level setters in Taylor Vanden Berg and Brooke Bolwerk.
Lauren Borchardt – Manitowoc Lincoln
Katie DiRaimondo has been the go to outside hitter for Manitowoc Lincoln the past few years and has most recently committed to Tennessee Tech. When DiRaimondo steps to the backrow, Borchardt is able to come in and provide a high flying spark for the Ships.
Avery Moberg – De Pere
Moberg is definitely an energy boost in the backrow for De Pere as they were able to make a run in bracket play on Sunday. With an athletic lineup, De Pere will be a team that could sneak up on some people. Moberg is an aggressive server, plays with a lot of energy, and is efficient in the backrow with getting the ball to the setter in system.
Leah Parnitzke – Howards Grove
Howards Grove is going to be dangerous this year. Falling one match short of the state tournament a year ago has fueled the offseason fire for the Tigers and they made a huge statement this past weekend by winning the camp tournament. Parnitzke will be one of their setters and is extremely smooth getting the ball to the hitters with the best matchup. With the likes of Badger commit, Sage Damrow, Dayton commit Karissa Kaminski, and Mackenzie Holzwart, this will be one of the top backcourts in the state that will get the likes of Parnitzke and Emma Baierl the ball in a great spot to distribute.
Maddie Tolzman – Arrowhead
Aubrey Hamilton has been a go to outside hitter for Arrowhead her whole career. Hard to believe she is heading into her Senior year, however the next crew of athletes will be ready to step in at Arrowhead. Maddie Tolzman demonstrated her athleticism on the pin this past weekend. She has the power to terminate, but also create shots for herself to score in a variety of situations. The Warhawks are definitely not short on talent and depth this season.
Jade Stefan – Arrowhead
Stefan was an AAU All Star for Milwaukee Sting 16 Black at AAU Nationals in Florida. This weekend, we got to see why with her dynamic ability to run the show. Stefan can play multiple positions, defend at the net and back court, and put a clean ball up to terminate. The middle combo of Monica Lafleur and Lindsay Krznarich was working extremely well with their setters this weekend and will be a dangerous added dimension this season for Arrowhead.
Reagan McIntyre – Bay Port
There is no shortage of success in Bay Port athletics, and you can add volleyball to that list as well. The Senior class at Bay Port has the makings to really have a successful season. Reagan McIntyre was setting this weekend and was really able to get her hands on every ball and get her go to outside Brooke Clement involved. Shelby Stelzer in the backrow was also able to provide a solid first contact to get the Pirates rolling in their offense. The FRCC will be quite the battle this year with the likes of Bay Port, Sheboygan North, De Pere, and Manitowoc Lincoln.

Skylar White – River Ridge
White will be one of the top all around players in Division 4 this upcoming season. She will be looking to lead River Ridge back to the state tournament. White just makes it happen in all rotations. She’s dynamic, extremely athletic, and provides an “X-Factor” where she can score points in big moments. This season will be exciting to see where River Ridge can go after a successful 2018 campaign.
