Continue ReadingThe rankings process can be a little bit walking on egg shells, going on a major treasure hunt, and other times finding something you’d least expect. The Prep Dig writers have plenty been going to tournaments upon tournaments, seeing athletes from all across the state, and even for the incoming Senior class, we are continuing to find standout players. Progress is continuously being made with continued training, position changes, comebacks from injury, and athletes making putting in the time to polish their craft. For the Class of 2020, here are some athletes who are popping up on the radar and rising in the rankings.
Kelsey Carrington – Racine St. Catherines – Milwaukee Sting
Committed to Oklahoma
Carrington had a big year in the 2019 club season. After battling some injuries in 2018, Carrington was back to full strength where she was able to play in the middle or the right side. Big time programs took notice with a 6’2 uncommitted athlete who can do a little bit of everything, is extremely dynamic, and has a lot of athleticism. Carrington will be heading to Oklahoma which is a program on the rise out of the Big 12. Her ceiling is incredibly high and will be fun to watch progress into the college game.
Erin Powers – Mukwonago – Milwaukee Sting
Committed to Alabama-Birmingham
Powers was floating between being an outside hitter and libero/ds. One of the top all around players in the state found her spot at libero this club season and became one of the top ones in the Class of 2020. Powers can read, take pace off a hard driven swing, and makes really difficult plays look easy. This past spring, Powers committed to UAB in Conference USA with the likes of Western Kentucky, Memphis, and Southern Miss. Powers could even find some time with the UAB beach program.
Gianna Feld at the Wisconsin State Title Match.Gianna Feld – Kettle Moraine Lutheran – Milwaukee Sting
Committed to Marian (IN)
Feld really burst onto the scene when she was libero for KML last fall where she was huge in the Chargers run to a state runner-up finish in Division 2. From there she went on to play for Sting 17 Black, a gritty squad with plenty of athletes who committed to college programs this past club season. Feld is very comparable to Powers where she can read and is a really athletic, physical player. She will be a big part of the Chargers run to get back to the Resch.
Brooke Clement – Bay Port – Howard Suamico Inferno (Title Photo)
Uncommitted
This may be one of the biggest sleepers in the Class of 2020. Clement might be a secret on the national level club scene, but she is a six rotation standout where she can pass and attack with a deep shot to the corner or tool the block to score points. With 350 kills last year for Bay Port, Clement has continued to impress at the Prep Dig Top 250 in Milwaukee and had a really solid Badger Team Camp as well as Appleton North summer league.
Emma Wollert – Sheboygan Falls – FC Elite
Committed To Truman State
As the level of competition has continued to rise, so has the game of Wollert. Wollert came on to the radar this past club season playing with FC Elite as a middle blocker. A three sport standout (volleyball, basketball, and soccer) for Sheboygan Falls, Wollert has solidified herself as a really physical middle blocker that can make a difference at the net – especially defensively. The will be heading to Truman State which is a NCAA Division 2 in Kirksville, Missouri.
Ella CollinsElla Collins – Lakeside Lutheran – Milwaukee Sting
Committed to Eastern Illinois
Collins played a role on the Lakeside Lutheran state title team as a Sophomore and this past high school and club season really came on strong where she was able to catch the eye of Eastern Illinois, which is an NCAA Division 1 school in the Ohio Valley Conference. Collins will be looking to lead Lakeside Lutheran back to the state tournament with a really talented Senior class. She will be heading to Eastern Illinois with Ashley Sharkus of Oconomowoc.
Sam Gray – Watertown – Capital Volleyball Academy
Committed to Huntington (IN)
Gray is thunder and lightning in a bottle, as is the rest of the Watertown squad who just plays with a spark and fire where they find a way to win. Gray had over 200 kills last season from the pin, but she is also a gritty defender which is where she might find a lot of success at the college level as the type of player who could be a libero or even an attack out of the backrow. Huntington is an NAIA School in Huntington, IN.
Sam Miller – Waunakee – Capital Volleyball Academy
Committed to Augustana (SD)
Miller and Gray are club teammates at CVA with Miller being one of the setters. She will be heading to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to play for Augustana who will be in the process of transitioning to Division 1. Miller was a key part of the Waunakee teams who rose to be some of the tops in the state and will look to do the same this upcoming season along with Milla Malik on the pin who is committed to Buffalo.
Caroline Craig – Edgewood – Capital Volleyball Academy
Uncommitted
Craig has spent some time playing up on the 18s team for CVA and had over 1,000 assists last season for Edgewood High School. Edgewood will definitely have plenty of options this upcoming season with an extremely talent Freshman and Sophomore class and two setters who can do it all with Craig and Ella Foti, a Marquette commit who will be full strength after being injured in 2018.
