About Ava

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Aggressive at the net, working for every point we get, whether I’m hitting or blocking

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

As an undersized hitter, I think my mindset has always had to be, “be big”. My voice, my actions, my personality. I am also a hard worker. I have always had to be the hardest working person in the gym to keep up with those that are naturally bigger and faster than me

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved with the FCA at my school.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

As a freshman for my high school team, There was a lot of adversity with the upperclassmen on my team not accepting me as a 6 rotation player . However, through that, I think I learned how to see both sides of everything and learned how to gain a better perspective on people. The lessons I learned from that also taught me the right way to lead a team.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

The only significant challenge I have really faced in my life is starting this game later that I would like. In southern WV, the club volleyball opportunities are slim to none. I had to leave WV and find a club close enough to home where my parents could drive to, as their business is in WV. We landed at River Valley Juniors two years ago, and it was the best decision we ever made as a family.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a family type atmosphere for any school I go to. One that is within driving distance of my family (2-8 hours). Not too big, however, not large enough to only feel like a number.
