About Mattie

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my volleyball style as being the person everyone can trust to make a play and to lead them on and off the court. I try and be very calm in situations where pressure is taking over and my team just needs to play our game. In other situations I bring lots of energy and hype the team up as much as possible.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I would describe my personality as very positive and uplifting to my teammates. being able to help others and keep them from getting down on themselves is very important to me, even off the court. Mentality for myself i try my very best to stay up and even if i make a mistake learn from it and then move on to the nest play and not let it weigh don on me the rest on the game.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a member of Anchor club, member of fellowship of Christian Athletes, Co vice president of Eco club, national honor society member, yearbook member, and the boys varsity volleyball team manager.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

As a leader some important skills to have are to be able to help your team when they need it most. In volleyball or even out of volleyball telling your teammates you are there for them and them being able to trust you is a very important skill to have. Teamwork is very important as well, if you cant play as a team then your team will get nowhere. I very much praise and shoot for teamwork.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I was diagnosed wit Type 1 diabetes at the age of one. Growing up with diabetes and playing sports has been a huge learning experience and still is. It gets very frustrating at times and challenges me everyday. I have learned that fight and perseverance can get you to where you want to be no matter what. I don't let diabetes keep me from archiving my dreams, instead I use it for motivation.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a home. College should be enjoyable and something to look forward to. Playing volleyball in college is like finding a second family. To be able to bond with girls on a level and feel like family is something very special. Playing with them and being there for them is something I look for.
