Takedown Tuesday: Lyons VS. Lincoln-Way East Standouts

<p>In this non-conference tilt, The Lyons Township High School (LTHS) Lions hosting in front of a volleyball knowledgeable crowd, as well as student organizations,  such as the men's soccer team in attendance,  they had  a clear edge. The local club coach in attendance to watch many of her kids play tonight, but only to watch them fall to an equally challenging Lincoln-Way East (LWE) Grifins. LWE powered and served their way to a 25-21, 26-24 two-set victory.</p> <p>The LWE Griffins were led by <br /> <strong>Jessica Pappas</strong> <strong>(2020, RS/OH, First Alliance VBC,  Wisconsin Parkside) </strong> with 11 kills,</p> <p><strong>Kaleigh Ritter</strong> <strong>(2021, L/DS, 1st Alliance VBC)</strong> 20  digs</p> <p><strong>Emma Kein </strong>(2020, OH/RS, Ultimate VBC)  9 kills</p> <p><strong>Allie Sorenson</strong> <strong>(2021, MH, Ultimate VBC)</strong> with 3 blocks . </p> <p>Lyons also saw outstanding performances from</p> <p><strong>Pattie Cesarini </strong>(2020, 5'11, OH, 1st Alliance VBC, Oakland)</p> <p><strong>Elise Vorpahl (2020, MH)</strong></p> <p><strong>Tia Kostic</strong> <strong>(2022, MH)</strong> </p> <p><strong>Adrianna Vassek (2022, OH)</strong> </p> <p><strong><br /> Set by Set Summary</strong></p> <p><strong>Set one</strong>: Lincoln Way East was in control early with a10-4 lead, increasing it to 17-12. Then leading the set at 18-14, the LT setters were moving the ball between <strong>Vassek, Kostic</strong>, and <strong>Vorpahl. </strong>LT  made a resurgence, cutting the lead to 20-19, A key block from <strong>Sorenson</strong>, gave LWE enough cushion to finish the set 25-21.</p> <p><strong>Set Two: </strong>LT start out of gate quickly thanks to their strong middle play both offensively and blocking intensely, pushing the lead to 13-9. LWE seem to spread the ball evenly early in the set, but change it up toward the end by setting the pin hitters. Combined with aggressive serving the Eagles overcame their idle shortcomings to pull into the lead at 24-23. They held off LT's late rally to win the set, 26-24, closing a two-set win.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
