Superior’s Meyer Breaks All-Time Class C2 Career Kills Record

<p>Kalynn Meyer's name is at the top of a lot of lists when it comes to accomplishments in high school sports in Nebraska. She added her name to the top of another one over the weekend.</p>
<p>Meyer, a Nebraska volleyball recruit from Superior, also happens to be one of the best discus and shot put throwers in state history, but she has now cemented her place as one of the best all-time volleyball players as well by breaking the Class C2 career kills record.</p>
<p>The old record was held by Elmwood-Murdock's Megan Schmale, who finished her career in 2011 with 1,461 kills. Schmale would go on to have a standout college career at Omaha before playing professionally in Spain.</p>
<p>Meyer came into Saturday's competition just one kill shy of the record with 1,460. She broke the record when she had five kills as Superior swept Alma and then tacked on 10 more in a sweep of Blue Hill to bring her career total to 1,475 as of today.</p>
<p>Based on Superior's remaining schedule, Meyer should still have 17 matches left to play plus any additional matches the Wildcats would play if they make the state tournament. Meyer averages 4.85 kills per set for her career. At that pace, Meyer should be at about 1,725 kills for her career by the time the state tournament comes around.</p>
