About Sophia

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would say that I am aggressive, scrappy and energetic. I use a variety of hard driven hits as well as strategic tips and rolls to rack up points in the front row. In the back row, I am ready to sprint down any ball and always remain as an outlet as a back row attacker.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I believe that a positive and energetic atmosphere leads to better overall performance, which is what I try to bring on and off the court. I try to find the balance between holding my teammates accountable while also being positive and encouraging. My goal is to be the loudest person in the gym and the girl that is ready to run down any ball, even if I have to jump over benches to get it.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am the founder of Agaplay, an organization that helps athletes serve their community. I received academic principal's honor rolls for all 9 trimesters (4.0 unweighted GPA,) as well as Honored Scholar (1 of 3 highest cumulative GPA over 3 years) I received citizenship award 3 times (combination of service, academic excellence and leadership) and was in ASB for 3 years, (last year as president).

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed all 3 of these traits throughout my time as team captain, president of student government and now as the founder of my own service organization, called Agaplay (ex. partnered with Momentous and SCVA for SoCal fires gift card drive.) While I developed these traits off the court, they are evident on the court as well.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I struggled with being able to shake off mistakes and focus on the next play. However, I took time to figure out tactics to be able to focus on the next play. Now, I have incorporated habits between each play that help me to reset, and thus allows me to stand strong for my teammates. The ability to overcome mistakes has also helped me to have more fun when playing!

What type of college are you looking for?

I would like to find a college that challenges me both in sports and academically. My goal is to play volleyball at the highest level while also learning to apply the skills I learn on the court to all aspects of life.
