Expert Analysis
Mike Bryant | Prep Dig Scout
Etzler travels across the border to Indiana to compete with Mucniana, one of the most tradition-rich elite clubs in the country. As one of the top ball control and defensive prospects in the Ohio 2028 class, she saw a lot of opportunities to get on the court in a DS situation, helping her team to a 1-2 record. What was very noticeable was her floor direction and support as a 16U that has played a lot of highly competitive ball through both the high school and club phases. She has good skills but her ability to stay composed and provide leadership is a big quality that is tough to find in a lot of younger athletes. This team next competes on day two in challenge match #29.

Etzler did everything for her Coldwater team this past high school season as she moved into a six-rotation situation that required her to pass, defend, and contribute as a key arm offensively. She did all of that well in leading the Cavaliers in all of those areas, in addition to serving, to solidify herself as one of the top fully skilled prospects in this class. Coldwater finished third overall in the tough Midwest Athletic Conference as Etzler earned herself 1st team all-league recognition as well as a DVI 3rd team all-Ohio honor.

Etzler, also without huge length for a primary pin, moved into a significant role for Coldwater this season after a freshman campaign as their libero. She had a great season overall in leading Coldwater to an 18-7 final record. Doing what she’s done so well so far in her varsity career, she led her team defensively at 13.2 d/m. With her arm, she also led the Cavaliers offensively at 3.3 k/s and from the service line with 50 aces. At 5’5, she has a complete game that earned her Mercer County Player of the Year and a 3rd team all-Ohio selection in DV.

Coldwater ran the table last year in Division VI with a 29-0 record and a state title. They graduated the majority of their top offensive producers and have some big shoes to fill. On the defensive side was Etzler who earned 355 total digs on a 12.2 d/m average. Just a freshman last season, her experience will be counted on as a returning veteran that contributed heavily to the Cavaliers’ effort. She is solid in the first-touch aspect, which will be a key part of getting their offense moving.
