Texas Private Schools Most Underrated Players Vol.2: SPC

The Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) consist of 17 schools across Texas and some of Oklahoma. These schools are divided into north and south zones. They come together and play against each other in their conference championship tournaments. This conference is jam packed with high level athletes and elite Division 1 commits. So much that there are a few athletes that fly under the radar. I will be highlighting these athletes and their programs throughout this article.   Awty International isn't one of the strongest teams in this conference, but with their new coaching staff, I can see them becoming a much stronger program. Their setter, [player_tooltip player_id='485531' first='Charlize' last='Chou'], has been on athlete that has been a leader of their varsity for the past two years. I would love to see what Charlize and Awty's new coach does with their next two season together.    Charlize possesses not only skill but also exceptional character, distinguishing her in the competitive sports arena. Her leadership and volleyball IQ make her an invaluable setter, who demands the best from her teammates while fostering mutual respect and encouragement. With effective communication and motivation, she creates a cohesive unit that thrives on and off the court. As an aggressive setter, she ensures every second ball is playable for her hitters, providing them the best chance to score. This relentless determination elevates her teammates' performance and inspires them to pursue excellence.     Kinkaid is a program that has not had significant success in the past few years. However, they have definitely had some hidden gems sprinkled into their squad over the years. [player_tooltip player_id='694792' first='Avery' last='Landry'] is one of their most recent standout players. She has just completed her third year on varsity and plays a key role in their offense.    Avery's got mad skills and the potential to be an awesome setter. I can totally picture her rocking it at the Division 1 level. Her accuracy and strength in ball placement are spot on. But wait, she's not just a stellar setter; she's also a beast as a right side hitter and server. When she makes contact with the ball, you know it's going down hard just by the sound! Avery totally crushed her junior season being selected as a SPC All-Zone recipient with 109 aces, 476 assists, 320 digs, 263 kills, and 23 total blocks.     Episcopal was once a powerhouse in SPC volleyball. However, this season was not as successful as usual for them. Episcopal has some young talent coming up that I think will help revitalize their program.    Taylor has very confident serve receive and defense. Every time she passes the ball she looks like she does it with such ease. She is also a very precise and strategic server. You can tell she has spent time working on her consistency in spot serving. As she continue to grow and develop, Taylor will be a player you should watch out for.     St. John's has always had a strong volleyball program, and it looks to only be getting stronger. They placed second in the SPC tournament this year, falling to Hockaday in the championship match. Knowing they have a dominating varsity, they also have some great talent coming up from their junior varsity teams as well.    This is one kid I totally love watching play! I can't wait to see even more of her as she keeps growing up. She's a left-handed middle blocker, which is pretty cool since those are way tougher to read. Plus, she's got a high vertical and hang time, making it even trickier for blockers to figure out her swing. If she keeps it up, she's gonna be a super dynamic middle, and I'm pumped to see how she develops!    St. Andrew's has one of the most disciplined teams I have seen in years. Their team has great connection and rhythm from the pass, to the set, and then the kill. Tilly Streeter is one of their athletes that you notice as soon as you enter the gym.    Tilly is an awesome setter and a killer hitter! She's got some serious leg strength that really helps her land the ball exactly where she wants it. She's great at setting up her hitters for some sweet one-on-one chances. A lot of times, she'll mix things up by setting the ball in the opposite direction. When she's playing in the front row and going for a swing, she just jumps right over the blocks, and her arm swings are super quick! Tilly has finished her second season on varsity with 249 kills, 768 assists, and 349 digs.
