About Kate

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I play with a lot of drive, constantly working to make every play better than the last. I always like to think that if I can work harder and the scrappier, the better.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am hard worker and like to win. I always think there is something I can be doing to better myself and my team. I like to push myself and others to be the best.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in the club Illini Elite. I often go back and help my junior high volleyball team to work with their younger players.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed leadership from being captain on my volleyball team this past year. That taught me a lot about leadership. Running a 5-1 all season required me to constantly work and improve on those skills. Strong relationships help set up my team to be successful. I have also learned accountability and to know when you are doing something wrong and then working to fix it.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I had one bad year in junior high with a coach that was really hard on my whole team and it really took the drive I had for volleyball out of me. Luckily for me, all of the my past coaches since then have been amazing and helped to find that drive and love again. But I learned to push through the hard season, focus on myself and my “why,” encourage my teammates, and move forward.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a strong college that helps me develop as a whole person: both player and long term individual. I really care about academics, and building a strong foundation for my future, and hope to find the perfect fit of both.
