Few athletes had a more dominant postseason stint than Holtze last month. She accumulated nearly 40 kills during the first two rounds of tournament play, helping Cambridge notch another championship match berth. However, that’s not the full extent of Holtze’s influence. The setter-attacker hybrid can also run the offense from the back row. Her finesse in the ball control phase adds to Holtze’s range at the next level, so keep close tabs on her future positional role.

It would have taken a monster performance for Holtze to exceed anyone’s expectations. She racked up over four kills per set while also helping run the show as a backcourt setter. Still, Holtze’s all-around operation took us aback from the beginning of the tournament. Cambridge had 27 kills as a team during a quarterfinal sweep over Mullen. Holtze logged 19 of those and assisted on an additional five. That’s an unprecedented individual takeover.

Cambridge’s all-around leader produced another gem in Thursday’s quarterfinals. We’ve seen her wield positional range as a setter and a hitter, but there’s no question Holtze is the go-to terminator on this year’s team. She exploded for 19 kills in the Trojans’ straight-set win over Mullen and wanted the ball in every situation. Holtze also dished out a handful of assists to her teammates and finished one dig shy of a double-double. She’s an easy choice for your all-tournament team, but unfinished business remains.

Cambridge has become a permanent fixture at the state tournament, and Holtze plans to keep up the status quo. Versatility is a major storyline here, as Holtze is a go-to attacker and a savvy distributor at the setter spot. She has accumulated a career-best 4.2 kills per set while also shouldering a part-time setter role with 3.4 assists per set. If you’re looking for a constant triple-double threat, Holtze is the one to watch.

Let’s peruse the small-town scene further. Holtze’s meteoric rise caught us all by surprise and helped Cambridge re-establish its frontrunner status. Her offensive production skyrocketed last fall, culminating in over 300 kills and a wealth of backcourt contributions. Holtze can get her kills on the outside, from the middle, or anywhere in between. And, like many of the athletes on this feature, Holze is also adept at handling second contacts and has become a brilliant backup setter.

Holtze is ready to lead a new era of Cambridge volleyball. The Trojans made another tournament appearance this fall, but this 2024 lineup was younger than previous iterations. Holtze led Cambridge’s large 2027 class with 3.3 kills per set and a team-leading 46 aces. Her all-around impact makes the Cambridge dynasty an early favorite for the 2025 postseason.
