About Samira

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my game play style as aggressive and witty. Whenever a set feels off I don't just swing at it. I play it smart and put it wherever my opponents aren't. But when the set is in a comfortable place, I confidently swing and I am consistently aggressive and I would say I have a "see ball, get ball" mentality.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Off the court, I am a very sensible and loving person. I'm very empathetic and I make it a point to help everyone feel included. I know what it feels like to feel outta place, so I don't like when others are experiencing that same thing. On the court, I am completely locked in on my assignment and my goal is to destroy whoever is on the other side of the net.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have always had a sense of leadership about myself. Even from a young age, I knew what it meant to lead others. Not by yelling at them or telling them what to do, but by being a good example, being respectful to others, and by being dependable. Being a leader isn't a title you give yourself, it's a title given to you by people that believe in you and trust you to do the right things.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

A significant challenge I faced was being cut during my volleyball high school tryouts my 9th grade year. The coach had told me for months prior to tryouts that I would be on her varsity team as a 9th grader, due to me performing so well during my 8th grade year on her junior varsity team. After 5 long days of tryouts, she unexpectedly cut me. That kick-started my club volleyball journey.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a college where there will be people in my corner rooting for and supporting my success. A college that looks at me as a person not just athletic cargo. A college that thinks I will be useful, that will want me, and that will make me better as a person outside of sports as well.
