The 2025 club season is off to a great start for Dead Frog 17 Black.

Through three events, Dead Frog has finished in the top five in all three, including a 17 Club Green title at the Central Zone Invitational. The squad has dropped just three matches overall on the year and have picked up a number of lopsided victories.

This team is an interesting mix of 2026, 2027 and 2028 prospects, but they are meshing together well.

X-Factor: [player_tooltip player_id='513265' first='Anna' last='Overway'], OH

Dead Frog has a number of capable arms, but 2027 outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='513265' first='Anna' last='Overway'] is really shining this club season. The Plainwell product is displaying the ability to put the ball away from anywhere on the court. She brings the same power and aggression at either pin, as well as in the back row. Overway looks very loose and comfortable on the floor, which is probably due to a growing confidence from the success she is having. This should really bode well for he to have a big prep season coming up next fall.

Leadership: Breslyn Zache, S

One of the 2026 prospects leading this team is setter Breslyn Zache. The Paw Paw product plays the game with a lot of tempo and is getting great swings out of her hitters. Zache isn't afraid to take some chances and keep opponents guessing. She's got a really nice feel for her team and who should be getting the ball at key moments. Aside from her setting, Zache is also polished in her defensive play and serving and it's a credit to her all-around ability.

Underclassman To Watch: Lucy Young, MH

Overway has been the lead arm for Dead Frog 17 Black, but they aren't lacking in others that can put the ball away. One that you should definitely be looking out for is 2028 middle hitter Lucy Young. A 6'2”, dual-sport athlete out of Hackett Catholic Prep, Young shows a lot of upside. She's got the length and reach to be a real problem at the net with her attacks and blocking ability. However, Young is showing a lot of potential with her slide attacks and agility.

Defensive Foundation

Dead Frog wouldn't be where it is right now without some great defensive play as well. That's a credit to 2027's Jordyn Erdody and 2026's Mykayla Hough. Both have sported the libero jersey at different times and each brings their own strengths to the table. Hough is listed at 5'0”, but she covers a lot of ground and is able to do a nice job of disguising herself behind her blockers to leave opponents thinking they have an opening. She's able to stay low to the ground and make a lot of clean passes. Erdody has setting ability as well, so she knows how important is to hit her targets in passing and serve receive. She's reading the floor really well this club season. Both also bring a potent serve to the court, which has been another strength of this team.
