About Isla

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am an EXACT sports All-American, and I am involved with Tstreet Sierra Nevada, as well as my local rec center, assisting with volleyball camps that they run.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I coach younger volleyball players in camps in my town to help others gain the same experience and opportunities that I once had. I do this strictly as a volunteer, which allows me to help out my community while also fulfilling the needed hours to graduate high school. I also believe that coaching kids improves my sense of responsibility because I have a duty to keep the kids healthy and safe.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have faced challenges with my mental health, which once hindered my confidence and mindset when I was on the court. Still, working with specialists, I have improved my mindset and my mental health, which has allowed me to continue to play the sport that I love without anything getting in the way.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college with a great culture and academics that will challenge me just the right amount. Location isn't as important because for me, it's not a place that makes a home; it's the people.
