**Photo Credit: Adam J.S. Holt/Faribault Daily News**

Northfield had one of the top teams in Class AAA last season and didn’t graduate a senior. The Raiders have a good crop of seniors now and are led by top setter, Brynne Gray.

Gray spent the winter and spring playing with Northern Lights, going all around the country playing against top teams at every turn.

“Last year was by far my favorite year at lights because my coaches were great and taught more of a mental game than just the physical,” said Gray. “They taught me a lot about how to be a setter which has improved my game a lot. Playing against great teams helps because many play at a fast pace so i have to be moving quickly. That was pretty great. We had a lot of success in Minneapolis and Orlando in our national tournaments.”

The Raiders are off to a strong start early in the season and Gray said the expectations are high.

“We’re pumped about getting started,” said Gray. “We were second in the conference last year and we had no seniors. We’re hoping to win the conference. Century won the conference but had a ton of seniors. Mayo was strong as well. Both those schools were tough and I’d expect them to be up there among the best in the conference. Lakeville North is probably going to be our biggest challenge in the section. We played them in a scrimmage and it went well. Our expectations are very high.”
