About Maya

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

As a setter, I’m loud, communicative, and focused on keeping my team hyped no matter the score. I strive to be a supportive leader on the court and a utility player who contributes in every way I possibly can, both on and off the court.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I bring high energy and a positive mentality everywhere I go. I’m naturally outgoing and extroverted, which helps me connect with teammates, lead vocally, and keep morale high. I’m all about hard work, good energy, and doing whatever it takes to help my team succeed.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I haven’t been involved in any formal clubs, leadership roles, or received non sports relates awards yet, but I’m always open to stepping outside of my comfort zone. I’m someone who enjoys learning through experience, and I’m excited to explore more opportunities to get involved in leadership and community activities as I grow.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve volunteered a lot through MEFIYI, a nonprofit that supports youth sports and community growth.. Through MEFIYI, Ive been apart of golf events and a few crab/steak cookouts. I’ve also been apart of a program called T-cub which is ran through my high school to guide younger kids and help coach them play volleyball. Unrelated to MEFIYI I’ve coached a 10-12 year kid rec volleyball team.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Last club season was tough, I had limited playing time (less than 7% over the whole season) and barely got touches in practice. It was hard to keep my head high but instead of getting discouraged, I used it as motivation. I’ve had to work hard to rebuild my confidence and improve my skills to come back stronger as a person and as a player.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a competitive yet supportive program where I can grow as a setter and have a real chance to contribute. Im open to NAIA, D1, D2, D3, or JUCO-anywhere that values court leadership, hard work, and volleyball IQ over just height. A smaller or a bigger school would be a great fit for me, anything just with a tight team culture.
