The final act.

The 2025 club season has reached its final day. 16s and 17s will chase a USAV Nationals title in Dallas, and Nebraska teams are in the mix again.

Let's break down the contenders. Finish strong.

Closing in Open

It's not how you start. It's how you finish.

[program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 16 Elite may have embraced the underdog role heading into GJNC's coveted 16 Open division. The Lincoln-based squad was seeded 31st overall among the 36 elite teams in this group. Of course, every Open-qualified team at USAV Nationals has proven itself at the highest level and can bring its best to the postseason. Toss those seeds out the window.

Tstreet and Arizona Storm landed on VCN's formidable opening-day slate. 16 Elite dropped a 20-18 heartbreaker in the Tstreet contest, putting [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] on the hunt for a rebound. Unfortunately, a loss to AZ Storm relegated 16 Elite to a 0-2 start.

Perfection was now needed to stay in Gold contention after Round 1 pools. That's exactly what [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] delivered.

The journey started with a pair of two-point set victories over Drive Nation to put 16 Elite in the win column. VCN was then on the winning end of a deuce third set, taking down Top Select to reach 2-2.

Mintonette was the final obstacle, and 16 Elite completed the comeback bid by sweeping the Ohio Valley contenders to finish third in Pool 1.

Perhaps this rousing rally gave [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] some forward momentum into Round 2, as the wins continued to pile up. Wednesday morning's gauntlet started with an emphatic sweep over Circle City, placing [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] in an ideal spot to reach the challenge round.

16 Elite would not settle for second place, though. [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] scored its biggest triumph of the tournament with a three-set victory over Mizuno Long Beach to win its pool and soar into the final placement match.

[program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] drew Forza1 in the challenge match and swiftly added another sweep to the docket. After starting 0-2, 16 Elite amassed a six-match winning streak to reach 16 Open's final eight. A rematch with AZ Storm awaits.

Premier Nebraska 16 Black competes at the 2025 Midwest Power League.

Seizing an Opportunity

Premier Nebraska 16 Black had a fascinating path to USAV Nationals.

The team initially fell one spot short of a GJNC bid at the Great Plains Region Bid Tournament. However, 16 Black got an assist when Premier Nebraska 16 Gold, the bid tournament's champion, picked up an Open bid through the Show Me Qualifier. 16 Black subsequently slid into the 16 Freedom slot and had a new path to the podium. This week's results have brought the team several steps closer.

16 Black entered GJNC with the additional pressure of being the No. 1 seed in Pool 7. The Great Plains representatives quickly backed this up with a pair of sweeps to conclude Monday's action.

The Tuesday tripleheader brought some adversity, but Premier Nebraska safeguarded its winning streak nonetheless. FC Elite pushed 16 Black to a third set, but a 15-6 decision kept Premier in the win column. After an evening sweep over PVA, Premier Nebraska capped off a perfect opening round with another three-set win over NKYVC.

The escalating stakes of Round 2 did not slow 16 Black's pace. Wednesday's pool play featured two dominant sweeps over South County and Renaissance to storm into the challenge match.

Even with the pressure of elimination looming, we got one more display of Premier Nebraska's dominance. A quick two-set decision over UVA placed 16 Black in the final 16 Freedom bracket.

A nearby Texas contender, Austin Skyline, is up first in the quarterfinals.

The final act.
