The 16s out of the Iowa Rockets, based out of Iowa City have traditionally gone to power leagues with the Great Lakes Power League and Windy City Power League, but will go the Badger Region route this year. There are some Iowa Rockets connections to Wisconsin as they were the club Milla Malik of Waunakee and Capital started her career when she lived in Galena as well as Sydney Beasley of Darlington, WI who is a hidden gem in the Class of 2021. Here is a outlook into the Iowa Rockets and some of the opponents they will be facing the opening weekend of Badger Region Power League.
Kora RuffIowa Rockets 16R at a Glance
With a top four finish at the USAV 15 National Division last year, these athletes from Eastern Iowa have had major breakout seasons their Sophomore year of high school. Macy Daufeldt has been on the radar since she stepped on the court and three sport star for West Liberty High School where she was a state long jump champion as a Freshman and plays basketball as well. The incredibly athletic outside hitter has already committed to Drake. Kora Ruff is one of the top setters in the Class of 2022 out of Iowa and is uncommitted, but will definitely be a Division 1 prospect when the time comes to finalize plans come late/spring early summer. She is silky smooth with how she moves on the court and how she knows where and when to attack. On both pins, there are strong athletes in Ella McLaughlin and Calia Clubb. Clubb has spent time on the right side, but can score points from anywhere. A wildcard who can play anywhere will be Kelsey Drake who was top point scorer in her class this past high school season, but recently scored 46 point in a basketball game – what?!? Out of the middle will be Alexis Moses who has committed to a program on the rise in South Dakota along with Ella Ramsay.
Other Badger Region Favorites In 16 Elite?
FC Elite 16 Navy – After watching this squad finish second in the Prep Dig Resolution beating two 18s teams in the bracket play, this squad is going to be extremely explosive with the likes of Berkley Mischler in the middle and breakout outside prospect Mary Satori who can score points with a lethal jump serve. The gamechanger? Karissa Kaminski, the Class of 2022 Dayton commit. It’s not the diving plays that Kamisnki can make, it’s the place where she is already there before the ball is because she reads the game so well making that first contact so smooth.
Sting 16 Black – Well trained, disciplined, and they just don’t make mistakes to hurt themselves – there, I just described most Milwaukee Sting teams. Just solid all the way around. This 16 Black squad will have Grace Schneider and Morgan Klein with key state tournament experience along with two setters who are legit in Sydney Lewellin and Jaclyn Dutkiewicz. Lewellin was a top setter for Capital and had a huge breakout season in high school, will be fun to see her take on high level competition.
Siedenberg settingMVP 16 Blue – Motion Volleyball comes out of the Milwaukee Area as well and will be led by Brooke Porter who has High Performance experience and was a key player for Muskego. Setter, Rebecca Siedenburg helped lead her high school team to state tournament and is just really smooth overall with her release and getting connected with her hitters.
FC Elite 15 Navy – This might be the longest lineup in the field with multiple athletes right around 6’0 tall, including 8th grader Ella Demetrician who puts such a snap on her swing, she really has the velocity and spark thats contagious with the rest of the team. Libero, Paige Miller is going to be one to watch. She plays with a fire and intensity that needs to happen with all liberos. She is solid in serve receive and just a gamer like demeanor on the court.
