Continue ReadingThe JVA Mizuno Showcase at the Wisconsin Dells is a full weekend of events across multiple sites that starts Thursday night with the VC United Exposure Camp and competition Friday morning through the weekend. There are plenty of great parts of this event, but this article will zero in on a few uncommitted athletes who could help out a college program as soon as next year – next year meaning six months from now. For Seniors, they are ready to send in the deposit and post the picture with the shirt. For Juniors, it’s getting there – plenty of options, but the process of elimination has begun. Here are a few athletes and even teams to take a closer look at this weekend at the Mizuno Showcase. From the Prep Dig side of this event, we will have writers at the Showcase on Thursday and through the weekend while also heading to the Badger Region Qualifier at Milwaukee Sting – tis the season!
Amber Weltha – IPVA 18 Black (IA) (Title Picture)
Class of 2020
I saw Weltha play at the Chicago Qualifier for an extremely talented IPVA team that has plenty of D1 and D2 players on it and Weltha definitely blends right in with this team. A middle blocker who I could see playing on a pin as well, has the athletic ability to get from pin to pin blocking and the strength to score points – untapped physicality. Whatever program picks her up will get better – she is the type who could be a dominant player later in her college career with continued training to go along with natural athleticism.
Six Pack 17U – Playing in the 18s Division (IA)
Class of 2021
#12 Siedenburg blocking with #21 Riley KindtSix Pack 17U is sitting in the top spot of the Iowa Region with plenty of multisport athletes. They had a bit of a patchworked team at Triple Crown with some injuries as well as regional basketball going on in Iowa. With a full squad (unless some make it to state basketball), this team is going to be scary good for March and April with momentum heading into the summer. Jadyn Jondle is a rock solid libero who has always competed at a high level along with a strong batch of attackers in pins Elyse Winter, Saari Kuehl, and Dani Johnon. McKenna Scheib is a strong middle blocker who is also a strong prospect out of the Class of 2021.
Madeline Siedenburg – MVP Motion 18 Blue (WI)
Class of 2020
Siedenburg has an electric style of play. A six rotation outside hitter who can score from anywhere on the court. She has an aggressive approach and a big swing that can score points in a hurry for MVP. The 18s Division of this tournament is always tough and MVP will be competing against some of the top teams in the Midwest.
Sami Hilley – MN Select 18-2
Class of 2020
Hilley has been the radar as an undersized middle and even showed she can set this past high school season. She just finds a way to score points. With great court vision, quick snap, and fast arm she knows how to find a split in the block or a deep corner.
Kayla Lewinski – Motion MVP 17 Blue (WI)
Class of 2021
Great athlete, high character, and someone who is going to match the culture as well as the talent level in the gym better. From seeing Lewinski go after a ball and get her leg caught in a chair her 15s year to seeing her adapt to playing on both pins as a Junior in high school, one thing that has always remained constant is her positive body language, attitude, and just get after it on the court. MVP 17 Blue is really athletic and will have Illinois State commit, Katelyn Lefler setting and doing damage in all six rotations. Keep Lewinski on the radar, she has the ability and intangibles to go with.
Allyson Treichel – Minnesota Volleyball Academy 17 Elite (MVA)
Treichel attackingClass of 2021
Big jumper, this MVA 17 Elite squad is well trained and disciplined in their style of play with athleticism at each positional. Treichel’s ability to score points out of the middle comes from a strong approach and big jump where she has plenty of hangtime to see the court and find the open spot.
Alayna Westenberg – Capital Volleyball Academy 17 Adidas (WI)
Class of 2021
Westenberg is tough to defend. Last time I saw her play, she was on the right side, which if she is hitting cross court, the setters need to make sure and stay in base. She has an extremely heavy swing that is tough to put up a clean contact to stay in system. A right side like Westenberg is a huge matchup problem. Then you put an outside like Payton Addink, a Minnesota-Duluth commit on the pin and it can really spread the defense out along the front line.
Hanna Thompson – Mizuno M1 17-1 (MN) – Class of 2021
Rachel Schneider – Mizuno M1 17-1 (MN) – Class of 2020
Kaitlyn BinghamI really like this M1 17-1 team with the blend of athletes they have together. Really athletic and well rounded with a variety of what they can do at each position. Thompson and Schneider both have the athletic and physical style where they can attack off one foot. As a whole, this team will definitely look to compete and be in some big matches come Sunday.
Kaitlyn Bingham – VC United 171 – Class of 2021
Lizzy Danelski – VC United 171 – Class of 2021
Bingham and Danelski were both part of Oconomowoc’s back to back state runner-up finishes the past two years. Bingham is a springy outside who can really sky and hammer while Danelski can run a variety of tempos from the middle and knows how to find the deep corner. Oconomowoc has had great success with their athletes heading to VC United with Class of 2020 athletes Tayler Alden (UNI) and Ashley Sharkus (Eastern Illinois) playing on their 18s team.
