About Lainey

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I come from parents who are volleyball players and coaches, so I learned a lot about the game from a young age. I think my Volleyball IQ is my biggest asset. I am a versatile player, although I am working to focus at the libero position (but can play any front row position, and have many times in my career). I take pride in being a great teammate who is dependable.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am highly competitive and hold myself to high standards; but at the same time, I like having fun and smiling when I play - it helps me play more relaxed and that is when I am at my best. I love nothing more than seeing my teammates and team succeed - I know that all players had a hand in making that point successful, regardless of who gets the stat for it.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a member at St Francis Episcopal Church, and also participate in youth activities at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. I am a member of the Beta Club at school.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I spend my free time working with youth in the sport of volleyball by volunteering at camps & youth programs, helping the youngest athletes develop a love for the game. In my journey, I cherish what I learn from older players that have helped shape who I am, and hope to be that for others. I have served as team captain many times; an honor I take pride in and develops my leadership abilities.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I transferred schools between my 8th and 9th grade year. I went from knowing everyone to knowing no one. While I was very nervous, I was able to form some relationships through summer volleyball workouts that helped me. I also went from a public school to a private school, so the jump to a more rigorous academic environment required significant adjustments, but I am thankful for the opportunity.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am not sure of what I am looking for yet, I am just beginning my journey.
