The future is bright for many of the players taking the court for the Five 1 Athletics club volleyball program.
This includes 18U Blue players Harper Johnson, Savannah Varela and Ashley Miller, all of which have signed National Letters of Intent to compete collegiately starting next season at Mott Community College and Alma College, respectively, according to www.five1athletics.com.
Coming up behind those athletes for Five 1 Athletics are its 17U-1 squad. Among the talent to watch for with that team are players like….
PEYTON MILLER
As a resident of Petoskey, this individual drives three hours each way twice a week to attend practice and be part of this organization. In turn what that passion equates to on-court is a determination and energy level that can’t be coached. Everything Miller does on the court she does with a purpose. A specific strength is her ability to get low on the bump and not allow the other team to score on the serve.
MADISON GEBHARDT
A member of the Flint-Powers class of 2022, Gebhardt is a powerful outside hitter. Most proficient in the frontcourt, she has the ability to play with strength, but also does an excellent job placing the ball in close quarters on defense and going long on offense.
SAGE KISSMAN
Performing her best from the outside, Kissman came to the Five 1 Athletics 17-1 team from Mason High School in Lansing. She keeps her eye on the ball and follows the play at all times no matter where the action goes. That attention to detail also serves her well when it comes to taking directions from her coaches.
ALLY LASLEY
In order to be part of this team, this Libero travels from Birch Run, where she is a member of the class of 2021. One trademark of Lasley’s game is consistency. She knows her role and plays it to a tee. As intense as she is tenacious, this defensive specialist goes all-out from the first point to the last.
SYDNEY SAHR
With good height on the block and an even greater ability to mesh with those around her Sahr excels through verbal communication. The frontcourt is where this Fenton class of 2021 athlete stands out the most.
Several other names worth knowing for the Five 1 Athletics 17-1 squad include Clarkston’s Sydney Hasenfratz and DeWitt’s Grace Marshall.
