Section 6A Preview

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Postseason play is right around the corner. With sections set to start in less than two weeks, PrepDig is breaking down each section with teams and players to watch.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Section 6A saw Underwood reach the state tournament and win two games last season. On the surface, there is good depth in the section which figures to create some potentially intriguing subsection matchups as postseason play goes along. It looks like Wadena-Deer Creek is the favorite, but Underwood and several other teams look plenty equipped to contend as well.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Favorite</strong>: <em>Wadena-Deer Creek</em></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Checking in at No. 6 in the latest coaches poll, Wadena-Deer Creek looks like the favorite to emerge from Section 6A this season. The Wolverines have just four losses on the year - three to Class AAA teams - and good wins over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, Breckenridge, Buffalo and Chanhassen. Casey Volkmann and Ellie Miron as outside hitters presents problems for just about everybody as both are highly effective strikers and Ashley Adams is a very good setter. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Next Up</strong>: <em>Underwood</em></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Underwood looks like the top competitor to Wadena-Deer Creek and after getting to state a year ago, the Rockets won't be an easy out for anyone. Underwood went 2-3 in the Class A Showcase earlier in the season and has losses against top teams like Minneota and Stephen-Argyle on the season. Otherwise, this has been a strong team all season. The combination of Brenna Tinjum and Emma Fitzgibbons gives the Rockets a very strong outside hitter duo. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>In the Hunt</strong>:<em> Barnesville, Pelican Rapids, Henning, Breckenridge</em></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It seems like these teams have all beat up on each other over the course of the season. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Breckenridge is 17-7 and went 2-1 against Barnesville, 2-0 against Pelican Rapids and lost to Wadena in five sets. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Barnesville is 19-7 on the season and lost to Pelican Rapids and went 1-2 against Breckenridge. It looks like the Trojans will earn the No. 2 seed in the north subsection. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pelican Rapids has just four losses on the year - two to Breckenridge and losses to Perham and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton - and seems to be playing good ball at the end of the season. Both of the Vikings' recent losses were five-set variety and they've picked up good wins over teams like Hawley and New York Mills. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Henning is another solid team in the south subsection and could be an interesting one to watch. The Hornets pushed Wedena in a loss back in September and finished the regular season with 21 wins.</span></p>
