It’s been stated many a time over the years, but, currently, when it comes to the idea that, the times, they are changing, truer words have never been said.
Another common saying that applies just as much during these present unprecedented complications is that the more things change, the more they stay the same. What that means for the class of 2020 is that, while some are still hoping to sign a college letter of intent and earn a scholarship, they’re hopes and dreams of moving upward and onward athletically are just as valid now as they were before quarantine restrictions took hold.
Those individuals still have all those same skills and years of on-court experience to offer. The only thing that’s changed is the society around those players. Because of that these diamonds in the rough may still get their chance to shine, but it’s going to take just a little longer and perhaps even a tad more luck. Among those possibilities, some of which even have stats and game film available on Maxpreps.com, include…
LOGAN COFIELD
With a keen eye, Cofield takes a wide berth from the net when the ball is in play. This allows her to charge hard and adds to her delivery power. She also flows seamlessly across the front line and offensively plays the angle of the front corner rather well. During her final season at Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti this five-foot-9 Outside and Middle Hitter proved exactly that by coming through with 305 kills, and 72 digs in 112 sets played. Currently she plays for Legacy Volleyball 18-2 ADIDAS.
GRACE PAVELKA
As a Team Captain for Cedar Springs High School Pavelka helped her squad go 26-23-4 overall, 5-7 league, for 2019-20. Along the way this Middle Blocker and Middle Hitter laid down 313 kills and 55 triple blocks. She also picked up 64 assists and blocked 16 shots this season for the Red Hawks, equating to rankings of 186th in the state and 5745th nationally. Presently she is a member of the Far Out Volleyball Club’s 18 Red roster.
ISABELLA GIUFFRIDA
The back row is where this talent truly plays her best. Whether she’s turning an opposing spike into an opportunity for her own or chasing down balls that venture beyond the back and side lines it’s her penchant for keeping plays alive that stands out the most. At present this Libero/Defensive Specialist and Troy High School senior plays for Legacy Volleyball 18 Elite Boost and stands in at five-foot-two.
AMRI SMITH
This uncommitted Opposite is a member of the Far Out Volleyball Club 18 Red Team in Grand Rapids right now. She also attends East Kentwood High School in Kalamazoo and even played their briefly as a junior. This senior is sex-feet tall and plays both Forward positions for the Falcons basketball varsity squad.
EMILY SNAY
She may be the only member of the Legacy 18-1 ADIDAS team to be uncommitted at this time, but like the last of anything, that only brings more value to what she has to offer. On the court this final piece of an incredibly well put together puzzle hasn’t played for her high school, Romeo, since 2018-19. But, when she did what she was able to amass was 210 kills, 114 digs, 49 assists and 20 triple-blocks in 94 sets played.
Some of the other unsigned seniors across the state include Middle Blocker and Right Side Nicole Hughes and Defensive Specialist/Libero Khloe Stoll of Legacy 18-2 ADIDAS.
