The 2025 prep season isn't very old, but we are already seeing some 2029 prospects making a big impact.

There was plenty of buzz surrounding this freshman class, but we didn't necessarily see it making this big of a splash so quickly.

Here's a the second part of our two-part series looking at some notable freshman performers thus far in the prep season.

Evah Foster, MH Lansing Christian

Foster has been a block machine early in the 2025 season. She has put up 30 blocks, with 27 being credited as solo efforts. She's matched that number offensively with 30 kills, but she looks like a hitter that is going to make a lot of strides throughout the year. She's definitely proven to be a presence at the net.

Mackenzie Hulswitt, OH Manchester

Hulswitt is proving to be a strong defender as she develops as a hitter. She's right at 100 digs on the season, showing a lot of good instincts to get to the ball and keep it off the ground. As she gets more reps as a hitter, her offensive game should start to even up with her defensive play.

[player_tooltip player_id='812023' first='Brynn' last='Johnson'], OH Marshall

Johnson is letting the state know that there is a big-time finisher on the West side of the state right now. She's been on a tear for Marshall, putting up nearly 225 kills already this fall. That includes a 30-kill effort against BC Lakeview and 23 kills against Portage Central. Johnson already looks like a seasoned veteran.

Anna Lock, OH WL Northern

The 6-foot Lock is leading the Knights on the attack early in the season. She's had some standout performances as she's nearing 100 kills on the season. Lock put down 13 kills in a big win over Fenton and 14 in a three-set sweep of West Bloomfield while hitting .303.

[player_tooltip player_id='757121' first='Stella' last='Smith'], DS/L Clarkston

Smith wasn't going to hesitate to take on the libero role with Clarkston and her competitive spirit shines on the court already. She's determined to get to every ball and is consistently putting up double-digit dig performances.

Kennedy Thomas, S/OH East Lansing

Thomas is a prospect that could make a big splash in the Lansing area. She's well-balanced with her play, leading the East Lansing offense as a setter, while also making a lot of strong defensive plays. What may be most impressive is she's hitting .479 as a hitter thus far. With that kind of finish rate, she may have to take on more swings.
