About Uma

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m an outside hitter at IMG Academy and proud to be on the 2025 AVCA Phenom Watch List. Volleyball is far more than just a sport for me—it’s a passion that has shaped the rhythm of my life and the choices I’ve made, including moving across countries to pursue it at the highest level. Every training session, every match, and every challenge has deepened my commitment.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m a driven, engaged, and happy person by nature. I put my full effort into everything I do—whether it’s in the classroom, on the volleyball court, or as part of a team. I genuinely enjoy learning, working hard, and helping others succeed alongside me. Staying positive and focused helps me overcome challenges and keeps me motivated to keep growing in every part of my life.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Postulated (invited) for membership in the Honor Society in America for academic excellence

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Over the past few years, I have developed resilience, leadership, and a strong sense of adaptability. Serving as the team representative at IMG Academy, I learned how to communicate effectively, advocate for my teammates, and help maintain team cohesion. This role deepened my understanding of leadership—not just as a position of authority, but as a responsibility to support others.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Having lived in three different countries, I’ve learned to adapt quickly to new cultures, educational systems, and social environments. These transitions were not always easy, but they taught me flexibility, open-mindedness, and how to build meaningful connections across diverse communities.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a top-tier university that offers both academic excellence and a highly competitive volleyball program. I want a college where I can be challenged intellectually, surrounded by students who are driven, curious, and passionate about learning. At the same time, I’m deeply committed to continuing my development as a high-level athlete.
