In the Division 3 State Tournament there were some familiar household names where the field was wide open. Stratford was coming in with a blistering record of 44-1, squaring off against Regis out of Eau Claire who is no stranger to the state tournament. In the other semifinal, it would be Brooke Anderson, the top recruit out of Wisconsin from Lake Country Lutheran going up against the Moshier sisters, Claire and Brooke who are both heading to Division One schools. For fans attending this session, they were treated to some “free volleyball” with both going into extra points in the 5th set. Here is a look at the WIAA Division 3 State Tournament.

The last time these two state powerhouses squared off in the Resch Center, it was Waterloo carrying the “gold ball” for the 2015 state championship, while Lake Country Lutheran finishing runner up. The Lightning of Lake Country Lutheran came out on fire winning the first set 25-11 and looked to be too much for Waterloo this time. The Pirates stormed back and even looked to be in total control of the 5th set until Brooke Anderson willed her team to the 16-14 victory to advance to the Division 3 title game, their second appearance in three years. Anderson had a near triple double with 34 kills, 10 digs, and 9 ace serves. The Moshier sisters carried Waterloo with Senior, Claire, tallying 24 assists and 11 kills while Freshman, Brooke, put up 20 kills and 13 assists.

With both teams having very close and emotional five set victories in the semifinals, the championship would be a battle of survival and who could respond the best after physically draining matches the day before. Regis was able to come out on top the first set, but from there is was all Lake Country Lutheran. Anderson, once again, had a stellar match with 26 kills, but Jennifer O’Keefe stepped up big for the Lightning with 18 kills on .433 hitting percentage. The Lightning finished the season with a 45-5 record, while Regis closed out with a 22-7 record.
