Freshman seasons are about learning, adjusting, and beginning to understand what your game looks like at the next level. The athletes below shared their own words about where they feel strongest, what they are working to improve, and what they want this club season to be about. Their answers reflect early self-awareness, work habits, and personality, all important markers for long-term development.

Averie identifies her defense as her strongest skill, noting that a great dig not only helps her team during the game but also boosts team morale. She is currently working on improving her vertical through plyometrics, leg work, and core workouts, with clear goals for the club season of gaining two to five inches on her vertical jump and increasing her serve receive accuracy. Off the court, Averie shares her love for music and movies from the 1980s, saying that if she could visit that era, she would never want to leave.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Leilani says her strongest skill is her ability to hit various places on the court when needed in different situations, along with her competitiveness and determination. She is currently focused on improving her serve receive and staying consistent, putting in extra reps during downtime. Her goal for the this club season is to stay consistent while maintaining positive confidence. She also notes that she has a quirky personality and loves making people smile when they need it most.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Audrey describes her strongest skill as her hustle defense and resetting, emphasizing that stable defense allows her to control the ball and contribute to team success. She explains that resetting her team and her mindset helps keep the court calm and focused from point to point. She is currently working to improve her serve receive by getting as many reps as possible at home, training herself to track the ball early and hold her platform so the ball gets to the setter without unnecessary effort. Her goals for the club season include focusing on the basics, defense, and serve receive, while bringing high energy, intensity, and focus in any role she is given. Audrey also shares that she has wanted to be a pediatrician since kindergarten and takes her academics very seriously.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Addyson says her strongest skill is her ability to adapt to her hitters and learn how to set them quickly. She is continually working to improve her serving and defense, areas she finds challenging, and practices nearly every day, including bringing a ball with her while traveling to work on defense at home. Her goal for the season is to let herself enjoy the game again, explaining that she wants to find her love for volleyball, not just like it, while also improving her understanding of the game. She describes herself as competitive and loud on the court, while being quieter and calmer off the court, noting that she learned early that being quiet is not meant for volleyball.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Jaime describes herself as a vocal player who encourages teammates and gives full effort every time she steps on the court. She is currently working on her setting because she wants to be an all-around player, putting in extensive reps at home with a weighted ball and participating in individual training sessions. Her team goal is to win tournaments and qualify for Nationals, while her individual goal is to be the best leader she can be for her teammates. Jaime also shares that she is a military child who lived in England and traveled around Europe, experiences that have helped her adapt to different locations and environments.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

✨ If You Enjoyed This Article, Help Us Keep the Momentum Going

🔥 Players
Use this article to grow.
