Columbus Lakeview finished the 2019 season with a record of 22-11. After falling in the second round of subdistricts to eventual state runner up St. Paul, the Vikings missed making the district finals by .1 in wild-card standings.

Coach Belitz sums it up best, “Expectations are high with 8 returning letter winners, 5 returning starters, and a couple of key additions. We learned some tough lessons in 2019 about better handling success and failure, and those lessons will be valuable to the team this season. Optimism begins with returning the best setter in Lakeview’s history in [player_tooltip player_id="58251" first="Reese" last="Janssen"], paired with returning her top 4 offensive weapons from last year. There will be tough competition to continue Lakeview’s tradition at libero this year, which will solidify our back row. As always, the quality of leadership from players will determine whether that talent is maximized.”

As an up and coming volleyball program in Columbus, the Lakeview program has posted 20+ win seasons in 6 out of the last 7 years and hopes to make a trip to state in 2020 which would be the first in 39 years.

Janssen’s most memorable volleyball moment against Columbus Scotus, “Beating our cross-town rival in 2019 subdistricts. It was so much fun because we have a very strong competition with them and it was fun knowing the hard work paid off when we beat them.”

Reese on her volleyball career throughout the years, “It was a lot of fun. Freshman year I had a sister who was a senior on the team and I was friends with a lot of the upperclassmen. I lettered freshman year and got to set varsity, and the following year I was the starting setter. It was fun watching myself improve the past few years. I have become a leader on and off the court and learning my best way to be a leader was challenging but enjoyable.”
