About Lyla

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a true six-rotation outside who impacts every part of the game. I’m a team-first leader with a relentless motor and positive attitude. Offensively, I’m aggressive and smart, using my vision, speed, and vertical to attack. Defensively, I’m disciplined and reliable, reading hitters and creating transition opportunities. With a non-stop engine and high IQ, I'm always focused on helping my team.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Avid competitor who started playing volleyball at the age of 8. As a captain of my teams, I lead by example and work to drive those around me to be their best. I'm a high achiever in all aspects of life and enjoy the results. I work hard to stay positive and focus on improvement and progress over immediate perfection (next ball).

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Volunteering: National Charity League buildOn Local Chapter Volunteer at Youth Tournaments as Referee

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

As a active volunteer, and elite HS athlete I've had the opportunity to be the "captain", but equally important I've been fortunate to be in situations where leadership is silent or behind the scenes. My dad has always taught us to be servant leaders, doing what others won't or can't to ensure the goals are reached, regardless of position or title.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I've had to overcome some injuries as all high level players do. It was challenging and frustrating to not be able to compete while treating to ensure longer term success. I've worked to focus on the journey and process as best I can instead of the immediate challenge/issue or frustration I'm experience. This helps me have a positive outlook and focus on being my best in the moment and future.

What type of college are you looking for?

A positive environment that is supportive of students and athletes. I would love the volleyball to be competitive and would want to be able to be a contributor however possible when I arrive. While the overall size of the college is not critical, the culture and community should be positive while challenging and provide the training and education relevant to next steps after college.
