About Ava

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my gameplay style as strategic. As a middle you can't hit as hard as you want into the block hoping to tool your opponent. You also have less time to decide what you're going to do when you get set. So, as a middle, you need to be prepared and able to see the court and know your options as quickly as possible in order to strategically place the ball in the court.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality is focusing on the next point. You can't change the outcome of the previous point, so there is no need to stay focused on it. The only thing you can influence is what happens after. I also implement this in my personality by focusing on the future and not getting stuck on past mistakes and decisions because I can't go back in time to change them.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in YoungLife, which is a Christian based organization for teenagers to grow closer to God and hear others testimonies.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Volleyball has helped me become more calm in all aspects of my life. Playing frantic isn't always the best way to play, and definitely (in my opinion) not a great way to live you life. Because of my ability to stay calm on the court, it has also allowed me to stay calm throughout my life and with other people.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

July, 2024 I tore my labrum in my shoulder. I was devastated and had no idea what to do since my whole life had become volleyball. I had to fight through the difficulty and discomfort of not being able to do everything I once was able to easily do. I went through PT and was very discouraged when I wasn't strong enough to do an exercise. Eventually, I got through it and it changed who I am.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college that has a competitive but also connected atmosphere.
