LSC Weekend 1: Bidness in 17Open

<p>We are rounding out qualifiers to close this club season, and one of my personal favorites began competition last week. Lonestar Classic brings 3 full weekends of insane competition across every court. This year looked a little different with the location changes but the event did not disappoint. I had the pleasure of being at GRB convention center in Houston to catch some fun gold bracket games, so without further introduction, let's get into our bid winners.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">1st place </h2>   <p>In case you missed the last drop on the 17 Open champs, go give it a read. </p>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>https://prepdig.com/2026/04/who-took-care-of-bidness-lsc-17open/<br></li> </ul>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Runner up: Dal Skyline 17 Royal - Sean</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Starting off strong with a 6 rotation outside hitter, Zailey High brings versatility to the floor. She does a great job making the play her team needs. Her energy and presence on the floor does not go unnoticed, as she competes tenaciously every point. Her swing is strong but is only half the story, with her court awareness and high IQ, Zailey knows WHERE to put the ball to make her team successful in long rallies.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='811675' first='Londyn' last='Bektic'], big time middle blocker for Skyline starts her team strong at the net. She reads well and closes the block with ease. Her aggressiveness and energy on the court keep her team on a high when she is in play. Londyn swings for her corners and keeps defenders guessing. With her defensive skill and offensive mindset, there is no doubt she is a key contributor to her team's success. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='529145' first='Nia' last='LaMons'], a name identified with classic defense. Skyline has a great libero in Nia, as she takes defending the back row to an extreme every game. She hustles, communicates, and of course, makes plays. The back court is hers to control, and she makes the job her own as she commands the beginning of each play. Her energy and hustle motivate her play, as well as, her teammates and it shows when it matters most.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='433654' first='Maia' last='Raleigh'], setter for Skyline Royal, does a phenomenal job controlling the tempo. Her sets are seamless and distributed well along the net. She moves the ball consistently among her hitters, keeping blockers honest and defenders guessing. Maia also gets her team started early with a float serve that disrupts opponents and fuels her team to stay ahead once the game is in play.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='806306' first='Kaelee' last='Berkley'], a stand out Rightside hitter for Skyline 17 Royal. A good swing is always an ideal starting point for a hitter, and Kaelee exceeds that expectation. However, her ability to shut down opposing outside hitters is what sets her apart. There is an aggressive defensive edge about Kaelee that fuels her team with each and every block she sets against her opponents. If denfense truly wins games, Kaelee needs to be apart of the conversation. </p>
