’26 Michigan Commitment Catch-Up: What’s Next? (Pt. 5)

There has been a wave of big time announcements from across the state.   From the Division 1 powerhouses to the NAIA programs, we have had it all. These announcements have made it nothing short of an exciting time to see where some of the state's most promising prospects have decided to go to next.   Up next in the catch up, we see a HUGE commitment switch from one of the top athletes in the state. Alongside her, we see some huge up and comers find their spots with programs on the rise! Take a look what's new with these prospects.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='710832' first='Anneliese' last='Weber'] to Winthrop</h2>   5'11 S - Orchard Lake St. Mary/Michigan Elite   If you were to roll back to last year around this time, there was virtually nobody talking about this player. But through a variety of summer camps and a club switch, [player_tooltip player_id='710832' first='Anneliese' last='Weber'] is very much at the forefront of a lot of conversation when it comes to the 2027 group of setters. Fast forward to now, Weber has found herself Division 1 bound with a program on the rise in Winthrop. Both parties are on a similar ascent and together, it'll be quite the sight to see what they can do together.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='839917' first='Sarah' last='Giroux'] to Wayne State</h2>   5'10 OH - Flat Rock/Michigan Elite   When Wayne State has a Giroux on the roster, all they do is win! Need proof? Just look to the last five years. This is a family affair that just keeps on giving. [player_tooltip player_id='839917' first='Sarah' last='Giroux'] is the next big thing. The 5'10 outside hitter has had what can be very much touted as a breakout year in 2025. Giroux came out of the woodworks in the club scene on the 2s for Michigan Elite before getting the call up to the ones and winning the Division 2 Player of the Year honors in the fall. She helped lead her high school team, Flat Rock, to the first ever State Championship match en route to earning POY honors. This kind of player is another huge pick up for Wayne State as they look to cement themselves within the top conversations in the GLIAC and Division 2 volleyball.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='513265' first='Anna' last='Overway'] to Northwood</h2>   5'9 OH - Plainwell/Dead Frog   [player_tooltip player_id='513265' first='Anna' last='Overway'] is a player that has fallen slightly under the radar but has come on strong as of late. For Plainwell, she found herself one of the mian outlets for the offense and she has only continued that role into the season with Dead Frog. At 5'9, Overway jumps well and is finding her mode with a variety of shots to score effectively. She'll be heading to Northwood who has been grabbing a bunch of exciting instate talent.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='897539' first='Haley' last='Armock'] to Akron</h2>   6'0 OH/MB - Rockford/MVA   Speaking of players that seem to come out of nowhere, [player_tooltip player_id='897539' first='Haley' last='Armock'] was virtually unheard of prior to the fall. Between her youth and a slew of injuries keeping her sidelined, this fall saw the 6'0 middle blocker burst onto the scene with one of the best teams in the country, Rockford. Armock's presence in the middle was a huge reason for their elite status throughout the fall. They weren't just top dogs in Michigan, but nationally. Armock brought a vibrant energy with a lot of pop in the ball when given the opportunities. With her approach to the game and yet, relative newness, she could be a pick up for the Zips that pays off big time.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Kate Kalczynski to <s>Ohio State</s> Penn State</h2>   6'0 OH - Mercy/Legacy   Ohio State has not had the best of go arounds these last few months. This decommitment was almost a nail in the coffin that left the buckeyes with zero remaining 2027 commitments. While a loss for OSU, this move is on paper a big win for Kate Kalczynski. From a program that was looking to the 6'0 attacker to revitalize them to a program that is coming off of a national championship run within the last two years.
