The goal for pool play on day one of the Indy Open was simple. You had win your pool to advance to the Gold Bracket on the second day of the tournament. Of the seven pools, only two of the highest seeds did that. Third-seeded Boiler Juniors 16O Gold did it winning all six sets and seventh-seeded Academy 16O Yeti won Pool G taking both games in three sets each.

Snow (pictured) is a force all over the court for 17 Black. Snow has a high attack point, making it tough for opposing blockers to get hands on. Snow mixes her hard and off shots really well. Snow even takes solid rips from the back row. She records solid solo and double blocks and places overpassed balls away from opponents. Snow also does a good job encouraging teammates from the bench.

Ashbrook has put together a solid season for 18-1. Ashbrook makes plays at all six spots on the court. Ashbrook takes qualirty swings from the pins and quickly transitions from blocking to defense. The same goes for defense to offense. Ashbrook forms a solid platform in the back row and keeps a lot of rallies going with her hustle plays. Ashbrook said playing up in age divisions has helped her take more high-level repetitions, noting that has led to her running a faster pace and develop a higher IQ on the court.

Cecil made the most of a tough situation. Cecil normally just plays front row, but had to play all six positions with 17 Platinum only having six players available. Cecil has a high hitting point with her vertical and takes quality swings, especially on ones. On defense, Cecil did a good job moving her feet. Cecil also does a good job constantly encouraging her teammates.

The 17 Crimson team has some size and Nash uses it to help the team control the net. Nash made a lot of things happen on the inside shoots. Teams could not get up to get touches on balls. Nash has a nice downward trajectory on her swings. Nash also made a huge difference at the net. Nash forms solid double blocks with her teammates.
