But this summer feels different for this group. They graduated four seniors, and now the focus shifts to what comes next. That kind of loss changes rotations, changes roles, and forces younger players into bigger moments faster.

The encouraging part for South Prairie-Max is they still return pieces that understand what that level looks like.

Last season, a lot of their success came from experience and stability in key rotations. This summer feels more about building the next layer around the returning core and figuring out who steps confidently into those bigger moments.

The experience returning on the outside gives them a strong place to start.

[player_tooltip player_id='849096' first='Keira' last='Francis'] enters the season already committed to Minot State University, and South Prairie-Max is going to lean heavily on her this season. She understands how to manage swings, stay available in transition, and score in different situations. What stands out is how composed she stays when rallies extend. She doesn't rush contacts or force offense when the play breaks down. That ability to still create quality swings out of system becomes even more important with a team adjusting to new rotations around her, and she looks ready for that responsibility.

[player_tooltip player_id='953719' first='Olivia' last='Jansen'] also returns experience on the pin and gives South Prairie-Max another reliable option offensively. She continues to improve her ability to adjust to different set locations and stay aggressive without overpressing. As the offense continues to develop this summer, her ability to contribute across multiple rotations becomes valuable.

[player_tooltip player_id='953721' first='Grayson' last='Tallman'] brings another experienced outside presence and continues to show growth in transition offense. She stays engaged throughout rallies and gives the setters another option when the play extends. That ability to continue applying pressure instead of disappearing after the first swing helps keep the offense balanced.

[player_tooltip player_id='930179' first='[program_tooltip program_id='432170' first='[program_tooltip program_id='432088' first='[program_tooltip program_id='431000' first='Madison' last='']enters a bigger role this season, and this summer feels important for her development offensively. She's continuing to work on becoming more consistent with approach timing and attacking different areas of the court. As blockers become more disciplined, hitters who can adjust and see the floor become harder to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id='930180' first='Kinley' last='Schilla'] gives them versatility with the ability to contribute both through the middle and on the outside. That flexibility becomes important for teams replacing seniors because it creates lineup options and allows adjustments without completely changing the system. She continues to stay active in transition and gives South Prairie-Max another athlete capable of contributing offensively in multiple situations.

In the middle, this group still has pieces that can impact the match physically.

[player_tooltip player_id='930178' first='Rayna' last='Magandy'] continues to develop into an important part of the front row. She's starting to close space quicker at the net and becoming more disciplined with block timing instead of reacting late. As that continues, her ability to influence both the offense and defense becomes much more noticeable.

At setter, South Prairie-Max has returning players that now take on larger leadership roles.

[player_tooltip player_id='741473' first='Reagan' last='Trudell'] will continue to be one of the most important pieces to how this team develops offensively. With younger pieces stepping into larger roles, the setter position becomes even more critical, and she already understands the speed and expectations of varsity volleyball. Her ability to settle the offense, make decisions in transition, and keep hitters in rhythm is going to shape what this group looks like early in the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='892216' first='Bailey' last='McQueen'] also gives them another option at setter and continues to work on tempo and decision making. What stands out is her willingness to distribute the ball instead of forcing one option repeatedly. That balance becomes important for teams still developing offensive chemistry.

Defensively, South Prairie-Max still returns players capable of keeping them in system.

[player_tooltip player_id='741898' first='Lucy' last='Lahtinen'] brings consistency to first contact and continues to do a strong job managing serve receive. She stays balanced through contact and works to keep passes on line, which allows the offense to stay available instead of simply resetting the rally.

[player_tooltip player_id='892192' first='Myah' last='Rau'] gives them another experienced defensive presence and helps stabilize the back row. She reads the game well, stays controlled defensively, and continues to keep rallies alive with disciplined positioning.

[player_tooltip player_id='742870' first='Grace' last='Groninger'] enters a bigger opportunity defensively this season and continues to show growth in how she manages first contact and extends rallies. Those extra touches matter, especially for teams learning new rotations and offensive timing.

That's what makes this summer important for South Prairie-Max.

Not because they lost seniors. Every team goes through that. The important part is how quickly the next group grows into those roles and how connected they stay while doing it.

South Prairie-Max already knows what a state tournament level looks like.

Now the focus becomes building consistency around the pieces returning, developing confidence in the next wave of contributors, and figuring out how this version of the team wants to compete heading into the fall.

And that's what makes this group interesting to track this summer.~Theresa@prepdigdakotas

In Case You Missed It
