If you haven’t heard of Spring Grove volleyball, perhaps you know their rivals Kingsland or Mabel Canton. This smal school has been secretly growing a herd of talented players. They are young, energetic and ready to make their mark on the Southeast conference.

For this team, we will focus on a "core four." However, their bench is deep and with each incoming class we see the potential grow.

[player_tooltip player_id="73482" first="Addyson" last="McHugh"] is primary source of strength and power for the Lions. At 5’10’’ the incoming sophomore was pulled up to varsity early on as a middle. After 10 minutes watching her run the court, it is easy to see why. Her physical strength makes her standout among high school athletes. She is explosive in her movements; and her quick arm-swing make her hard to block. Adding to her potential is her rock-solid passing form. McHugh reads hitters well and has worked to improve her back row play with hopes of a college career. In the 2020 season, look for her to be the unofficial, young leader with her performance and energy.

Next is the talented, junior setter, Rachel Norman. Her style is softer, calm and composed. She brings precision to match McHugh’s power. A knowledgeable setter who doesn’t waist time with extra movement. Norman keeps her team running a vareity of hits. Most of her scoring takes place from the service line. A unique, jump server who generates movement from a prone position. She surprises opponents when she leaps from the ground and delivers a long, float serve. We anticipate Norman to lead a 5-1 offense this coming season.

Balancing things out in the back is rising star, [player_tooltip player_id="73480" first="Maggie" last="Lile"]. A strong defensive specialist from a experienced volleyball family. The 2023 graduate is versatile and could easily fill in wherever she is needed, but when playing for the top SMV 16’s team, she was the primary Libero. She is thoughtful in her movements and has good instincts. Spring Grove looks to her as the leader of effort - pushing her teammates to seek perfection.

The team has a few years to develop a state-worthy team with other youngsters:

Lydia Solum (RS 2023

Kennadee Gerard (OH 2023)

Brielle Neeley (MH 2022)

Combine these underclass men with their four experienced Seniors and it should a defining year for Spring Grove!

Seniors: VaNessa Peterson, Piper Thompson, Paige Jahnke, Kelsey Bratland
