Mattie looked really good hitting this weekend. She showed good power and ability to go line and cross both. I got to see a couple good block approaches but mostly caught her pounding the ball down through the block. Blue Ridge has another sneaky good pin on their hands, as a Freshman who may not be done growing yet either, people should really be keeping an eye on her and her development over the next year or two. She’s the kind of player that is going to have a breakout year in 15s.

Mattie is another one of those local players who received recognition on the national stage. She dazzled at the Junior National Prep Dig showcase, earning recognition as one of the top players there.

Mattie plays right side for Blue Ridge showing off a tricky left handed swing that comes up with a variety of shots. It would not surprise me if she plays beach. At 5’8″ she doesn’t quite meet the height requirement of rising above the competition. Her game relies more on finesse with a pinch of power when the opportunity arises.

She plays for Cornerstone Christian Academy, which appears to have only started volleyball last year at the organized level. With her skill level she should make varsity and perhaps dominate the competition.

Gentry took great swings with proper spacing away from the net. Gentry took a number of cut shots, which are tougher to defend for defensive specialists that are not used to facing southpaws. Genrty also puts up tough double blocks. Gentry consistently encouraged the other players both on and off the court.
