MN 2AA: Talent Expected to Take Over This Fall

It includes schools such as Belle Plaine, Holy Family Catholic, and Medford. The level of talent coming out of this area is really high. Not only are the high school programs strong every year, but a lot of these players also take advantage of club opportunities in the nearby metro areas to continue growing and developing their game in the winter. Every plays starts with a pass, and the Chargers will be counting on libero Gunderson to provide just that. As a sophomore last season, she totaled 352 digs, 24 aces, and 30 assists while earning all conference honorable mention honors in the South Central conference. While Minnesota Valley Lutheran finished just under .500 last season, they will be looking to build on that this season with Gunderson being key to making that happen. When I watched her with her Northern lights team, she does a good job working in tandem with her setter, gets up with her strong vertical, and routinely finds ways to put the ball down. Whether she is going through the block, hitting over it, or finding the seam, she is a constant scoring threat. She also reads the opposing setter well, moves swiftly along the net, and puts up a solid block. Last year, she earned all conference honors in the Big South after racking up 170 kills, 51 blocks, and 69 digs. What I appreciate most about Fink is just how versatile she is. She can easily play on the outside, right side, or middle and make an impact at each. I got to watch her during the club season and see her play on the outside, but the reality is that you can put her anywhere in the front row and she will dominate. At 6'2", she obviously brings height to the court but what stands out more is how well she moves and how athletic she is in the middle overall. She gets up quickly and has a fast arm that allows her to terminate and also aids in her blocking. The middle is tall and moves well, but what stands out most for her young age is her ability to read. She transitions quickly, figures out ways to be a scoring threat, and reads the opposing teams setter so she can put up an effective block. Last season, she earned all conference honors while piling up stats of 166 kills and 62 blocks. What really stands out is how comfortable she is in out of system situations. While many players her age struggle with those balls, McGowen has the skill to turn those plays into points. As a freshman last season, she earned all conference honorable mention honors after totaling 145 kills and 44 digs. With another year of development at M1 and continued experience on the beach circuit, I believe she is going to have an even bigger high school season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
