Murray is a starting middle for the HJV 18 Elite team that will contend in the 18 Open division. Having watched her play for the last three years, I don’t think many other middles in Texas have been able to develop as many different aspects of their games as she did. Murray has always been an elite middle at club, combining impressive athleticism and power and a very high volleyball IQ. At high school, she got to play outside hitter and right side with Fort Bend Travis and that pushed her to further develop her passing and defensive skills and become a truly all-around player, who can contribute anywhere on a volleyball court.

Murray had a flawless day with HJV 17 Elite, helping her team win all three matches they played with her strong game in the middle. The six-footer was particularly important on offense as her tremendous efficiency kept opposing middles on their toes, having to make sure she wouldn’t get the ball before they could head to the pins. Murray hit all sorts of different sets at a very high level and used her explosive approach to add a little bit of extra power to her jumps and swings. She also did a very good job with her blocking, using her excellent footwork to move across the net and get to the pins on time.

Ivy League volleyball programs have scored a handful of impressive recruiting hauls lately, and you can mark down Murray as one of those. The Penn commit showed her multi-faceted role with Houston Juniors as a middle blocker who can score on any route imaginable. On top of that, Murray’s knack for reading opposing setters and sealing the block will translate well to the next level.

Originally a middle blocker, Murray started this season playing as an outside hitter in an attempt to increase the Bulldogs’ firepower. She’s been doing pretty well in the new position and quickly became the team’s go-to scoring option. Muray has excellent reach on her offense and tremendous power on her right arm. She can hit from the right too and has been impressively consistent, making very few mistakes. She also displayed excellent positioning on defense.
